Closing Bell: New Starrett City Bids Coming In

starrett-city-towers-03-2008.jpgHere we go again. Crain's reports that bids are once again streaming in for Starrett City, the ginormous federally subsidized East New York housing complex. One of the offers is being prepared by a community group including the Christian Cultural Center, the Central Labor Council, and the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty that says it will keep the property affordable. A group of investors tried and failed to buy the 5,881-unit complex for $1.3 billion last year. Plenty more on this one surely to come.

FREE RENT FOR STUY TOWNERS

http://www.nypost.com/seven/03052008/news/regionalnews/free_rent_for_stuy_towners_100527.htm

"The new owners of Stuyvesant Town/Peter Cooper Village are offering a month's free rent and adopting new, pet-friendly policies to attract tenants."

WTF!!! They upped leases and thew people out left and right.

"The astonishing move comes as the 60-year-old complex, which Tishman-Speyer purchased for a record $5.4 billion in 2006, struggles with a vacancy rate that hovers between 5 and 10 percent, insiders say."

10%!!!!!! How much money they are losing??!! Assfuck try trick like "free rent" but if they just lower the fucking rent, they wouldn't have this problem.

how much do you want to bet they will default??!!!

America is fucking toast

Who cares? We should all care. Some here are always saying, if you can't afford X neighborhood, move somewhere cheaper, like ENY. Well, this is somewhere cheaper in ENY, and in danger of being lost. You think that won't affect the rest of us in some way? Let's try and think big picture, instead of small, petty concerns.

The What is right on this one. Peter Cooper Village and Starrett City are very similar.

Yeah, well its still in FUCKING EAST NEW YORK!

Posted by: guest at March 8, 2008 5:01 PM

honestly east ny is last frontier.

Posted by: guest at March 8, 2008 9:28 PM

Surely, ENY is not the most desirable location in the world but working class people/seniors/disabled individuals need a place to live that is affordable and decent.

For the asshole that doesn't care...the people that would be displaced if affordable housing was not available are the nameless, faceless jane /john doe holding up the economy by doing the work that no one wants to do for horrible pay (the MAJORITY of the people in this city).

Posted by: guest at March 10, 2008 12:46 AM

The people who do the work are the illegals and they don't live here.

Teh tWhat is, as always, wrong.

When are you selling your place, tWhat? If you actually own property and didn't sell when you said the sky was falling, then you can't even take your own advice. You are such a loser.

Bye bye tWhat
