Closing Bell: Fading Glory of the Dumbo Triangle

Dumbo-Triangle-0308.jpg
It seems like just yesterday (okay, so it was last July) that the DOT was christening the former parking median in Dumbo with its signature green paint as part of a makeover into a lunchtime park. Eight months later, the paint job isn't holding up too well but we think the aged patina could be considered an improvement. What's next, astroturf?

Once the planters are full of living plants, this will look way better. The bright green was an eyesore.

This is an improvement but...

Who would sit next to a foot of a bridge in a large traffic median in the street instead of walking one block to the lakeside park where you can have a picnic on the grass, which doesn't lose it's green as easily?

C'mon DOT, do it the right way. Put some real grass for goodness sake.

A metaphor for Dumbo in general. The air is seeping out of this hood like a slow leak.

This will never look as good as a parking space when you need one.

What's going on 4:36pm? Jealous your job sucks and you wish you were 'Stoner?

Hmmm, maybe a few too many of those buzz breaks, my post-pressing friend....

At 3 am, it's a great place to take a piss.

This is what all of the bike lanes will look like in a few months. Whosever idea it was in city government to paint blacktop green should be sent this picture. Very very ugly.

ridiculous

Where are we? Port-au-Prince?

Posted by: guest at March 25, 2008 9:40 AM

Gross, where are all those paint flakes going to end up?

Stop fucking painting asphalt.

Posted by: guest at March 25, 2008 11:10 AM

The current configuration is temporary. The idea is to reclaim the space for the public as quickly as possible (hence the planters and painted asphalt), then get around to putting in real curbs, grass, plants, etc. As a strategy, it's a very good idea.

This triangle was photo shoot heaven last summer. The city better bring on the paint for the upcoming warm seasons...
