Calling All Interns

Our ever-reliable college intern over the past year, Chris Wodicka, is heading into the home-stretch to graduation so will be leaving us imminently. If you know someone looking to get a taste of the blogging world who can put a couple of words together and is a stickler for punctuality, please have him or her shoot us an email at brownstoner@brownstoner.com. Basic duties include doing the Events and Blog Wrap postings on a daily basis; more responsibility for the ambitious. Web skills and familiarity with Brooklyn are both a plus but neither is a requirement. There is a modest monthly stipend.

Knowledge of Brooklyn a plus, but not needed? Wouldn't that be the main requirement for this blog?!

Not necessarily. Chris has done it from his perch at Notre Dame all year! But it would definitely create more opportunities for an intern to make the gig more interesting.

"Knowledge of Brooklyn a plus, but not needed? Wouldn't that be the main requirement for this blog?!"

I thought the same thing when I read this comment. Brownstoner I think you are losing credibility. Also this reinforces my point, most of the people on this blog have no connection in the neighborhoods you live in. Plus to make matters worse people act like they lived here all their lives. Now come to find out that "Chris" has been blogging from Notre Dame?! That's a long way from Brooklyn. Hey Brownstoner, why don't you walk outside of your house and find someone from the neighborhood to help you with this blog. I willing to bet some of your neighbors are "Web Savvy" or maybe they don't look like you (yep, I said it). But I know they know more about your "Hood" than you.

"Basic duties include doing the Events and Blog Wrap postings...." In other words, cull stuff off of the Web. Yeah, knowing the neighborhoods will make an intern more skillful at doing the job, but I bet I could put together a daily events and blog summary on Santa Fe from Brooklyn.

Arent many of the writers from the Brooklyn Paper also phoning it in from other cities? oh well..

Posted by: guest at March 28, 2008 11:24 AM

Sounds like a great gig for a former Brooklynite who's off studying somewhere else. Or, for a kid from Ohio who's in Brooklyn for the first time.

The What, you live in New Jersey. If there's anyone with zero credibility, it's you!

Posted by: Biff Champion at March 28, 2008 11:37 AM

Biff Champion I know you are looking for a Nemesis. I'm not going to engage you. But I know one thing, time is running out on your asset bubble. If I was you that would be a big priority, not calling out a poster named "The What".

ahhh yes "The What": everyone's favorite predictably contrarian doom-monger!

Posted by: guest at March 28, 2008 12:42 PM

The What, I can assure you I'll be ok. The asset bubble can burst and I'll always have a place to live and something to eat.

As for you, perhaps you too will still have a place to live. Unfortunately for you, it is in LODI, NEW JERSEY!!!!!

The what is not really from NJ is he?!? If true this will make my Friday

Posted by: guest at March 28, 2008 12:58 PM

12:58, it is 100% true. He is a middle aged white real estate broker who lives in Lodi, NJ. It made my day when the story broke a couple of weeks ago and I'm still laughing.

Enjoy your Friday!

Be careful brownstoner: you may be open to legal action if you do not pay your interns a legal wage under the fair labor standards act. It is not legal to have unpaid interns unless the internship counts towards college credits.

Posted by: guest at March 28, 2008 7:30 PM

Yeah, because interns always get $7.75 an hour.

Posted by: guest at March 28, 2008 7:39 PM

Brownstoner stated that there is a modest monthly stipend. Unless this stipend constitutes a legal wage there is a problem. Stipends are for unpaid internships with college credit otherwise it is illegal.

There was a recent department of justice class action law suit that related to illegally compensated interns decided in favor of the plaintiffs.

Chaminade Chris Wodicka?
Smart dude whose entire knowledge of Brooklyn probably consists of information gleaned from blog posts.

www.c-wod.com/ for what passes for "elite" music taste
