StreetLevel: Bar Tano on 3rd Ave. Opening This Week
The new spinoff of Park Slope’s Bar Toto, Bar Tano, is going to open on 9th Street and 3rd Avenue this week. The restaurant’s space has been lovingly renovated (check the before photos here), and the menu—which hasn’t yet been finalized— probably isn’t going to stray too far from Toto’s "panini+" formula. The bar is hosting an opening party tomorrow from 6 to 11 p.m. (Brownstoner readers welcome) and will officially be in business for dinner on Thursday.

Looks like the begining of a security video before an earthquake tosses all the bottles off the shelves and the ceiling lights start to sway back and forth.

I cant beelive how quickly our neighborhood is "moving up in the world" I am really excited and plan on going here at least a few times a month!
Keep it up Gowanus, we may be the red-headed step child of Park slope and Carrol Gardens, but this place is becoming cooler and more interesting with each passing day.

3:24, that expression is racist.

Which expression? "moving up in the world" or "red-headed step child"?
Either way, this neighborhood rocks! Regardless of your trollish attempts.

I love red heads and step children. Can't wait to taste the PCB's at this sweet lookin' joint!

.....pretty pathetic

All of you Gowanus haters are pretty pathetic. Why do you feel the need to shit on people who are happy their neighborhood is getting some ammenities and cool places to hang out?
Are you really that jealous or insecure?

Bar Toto's one of the favorites of the missus and me. We'll have to check it out. This is a great addition for Gowanus.

I'll make the hike to check it out.

Long as they make a good gimlet, I'm there.

Gowanus Rocks! I love it here...

Speaking for myself and many of my friends in Gowanus, we are thrilled to welcome a place to drink, eat, and brunch to the neighborhood so we don't always have to trek up the hill or across the canal. And I have a feeling we will be loyal and excited patrons for Bar Tano. Welcome!

I'll check it out. However, I don't believe that the area will change much simply because you don't have the beautiful brownstones and distance to the park is great
Posted by: guest at February 5, 2008 12:32 PM
Whatever 12:32, the area has already changed alot in the 4 years I have lived here. Believe it or not, people actually do live and enjoy areas that arent full of fantastically restored brownstones - There is alot more to neighborhoods than that.

Gowanus is going to be the Venice of Brooklyn. You heard it here (something other than) first.

"Gowanus is going to be the Venice of Brooklyn."
Sinking buildings lining a stinky canal? Yup, I'd say we're already there.

I've only lived in Gowanus for a few years, but I feel like things are starting to look up for us. We may not be Park Slope or Carroll Gardens by far, but I can actually afford to live by myself here and I'm within walking distance to everything Park Slope and Carroll Gardens has to offer. Plus with a new venue on the way and Whole Foods opening up down the street, I feel like it's only a matter of time before Gowanus starts becoming a more desirable place to live. Lest you forget, Park Slope and Williamsburg used to be pretty crappy places to live once. Things change!
