« Alterations and Addition in 192 Water Street's Future? Co-op of the Day: 135 Eastern Parkway, #10C »

Development Watch: 892 Bergen Street

The industrial area of western Crown Heights is ripe for development, in our opinion. One big project underway in the area is at 892 Bergen Street between Classon and Franklin. When all's said and done, the now-six-story building will be ten, with 38 residential units and 19 parking spaces. Anyone know anything about the architectural firm behind it, Edelman Sultan Knox Wood? GMAP P*Shark DOB

No info on them, though I find it interesting that this is being developed when other buildings on that block are still not being used. Montrose, we spoke about this a while back.

How is an industrial area ripe for residential development
Posted by: guest at February 25, 2008 12:18 PM
Well, it's not zoned industrial but there are a lot of old one and two-story manufacturing buildings and empty lots in the area and it's close to the Prospect Heights border...

Oh yeah. Truly ripe. Who the hell wouldn't want to live there? So many services. Such beautiful architecture. Such great schools. And oh so safe.

I don't have to. We are in the final stages of the Mutant Real Estate Bubble. I worried about the heath of our finical system. Can we take the hit that's coming down the road? I hope so. If people can't see the mess we are in, we are really fucked.

Is this comment describing Williamsburg, DUMBO or Green Point ten years ago? Just curious.

Thanks for sharing. The neighborhood will benefit tremendously by your absence.

1:32 It's describing Redhook which you bought for way too much and now regret because nobody wants to buy your old factory space with no services, subway, schools, etc.

How long is this going to take, anyway? You've been going on and on with that crap for about three years now.

I have no idea what this will look like in the end, but I do know that people will complain that it is ugly. Guaranteed.
Count your blessing, 1:54. It's a rare occurrence that we are spared Montrose Morris's verbose drivel.

moreteasir - we did in the 70's, that's why we are on easy street today! it took a lot of nerve though and a few years before we could sleep well at night

I live right across the street from this at 891 Bergen and I've been watching this development for several months now. Now you can lament the condo constructions in your long-gentrified Williamsburg, but if you lived in this neighborhood you would agree that ANY development is good development. Bringing residential to this block is inevitable, though, so I'm embracing it. None of you bleeding hearts saw what was there before, nor have you seen the condemnable dope complex down the street.
