A Look Back at Salvage Fest '07

We're off for the holiday today but...We just discovered this very cool new slideshow application called PictoBrowser and wanted to give it a whirl. So, in anticipation of Brooklyn Flea's imminent launch, we threw together a look at last September's Salvage Fest, our first toe-dip into this whole outdoor market thing. Most of the folks who were there—Demolition Depot, Olde Good Things, Silver Fox and Eddie's—are going to be a part of the Flea along with a whole host of others selling antiques and other old-school items. For a reasonable up-to-date but not comprehensive list, check out the side bar on the Brooklyn Flea Blog.

On a truly shallow note: I love how laid back and "sloppy-sunday" everyone looks. One of the big reasons I love brooklyn. It'll be interesting to see if the crowd looks different this year, what with the manhattan invasion.

Ok, off to lounge around in my baggy t-shirt and rumpled shorts.

yeah, right. Sorry, but the subjects in the pictures appear very stylistically self-conscious. Give me a break.

People have a lot of guilt buying million dollar homes. They have to dress down when they are "slumming" with the locals.

Posted by: guest at February 18, 2008 10:51 AM

Yeah right, because I ususally were a tailored designer suit when I'm doing yard work on the weekend because I bought a "million dollar townhouse".

What a jealous, idiotic douchebag.

Must have touched a nerve, eh?

Posted by: guest at February 18, 2008 11:30 AM

Great photos. I can even see myself in some of the shots. Can hardly wait till the next salvage fest.

Posted by: Marauder at February 18, 2008 11:34 AM

I see two brokers I know in the pics.

Posted by: guest at February 18, 2008 11:42 AM

If you can find a townhouse in my neighborhood for a measly one million, you're not going to feel guilty. You're going to feel like a genius.

"If you can find a townhouse in my neighborhood for a measly one million, you're not going to feel guilty. You're going to feel like a genius."

If the price of that house falls to 500k, will they feel like a genius then?

No, The asshats was in emergency meetings about the Monoline problem. There are ticking nuclear bombs in our financial system. The dead bodies are coming to the surface and CSI is wondering what to do with them.

There is not much time left in our Mutant Real Estate Bubble. I hope people don't rip out the details of their Brownstones and try to sell them on the street. LMMFAO

@1:42PM

What's your occupation?

Posted by: guest at February 18, 2008 1:55 PM

Oh, tWhat. It's actually kind of weirdly nice to have you back. Figure you can sneak in some of your trenchant commentary while Mr. B is in the Hamptons?

If the price of that house falls to $500K, *I'm* gonna buy it. And then I'm gonna dance around in happy, giddy little circles, spraying Cristal into the bright, blue sky.

Posted by: Rehab at February 18, 2008 1:58 PM

I bet you The What was at Salvage Fest 2007.

Posted by: guest at February 18, 2008 2:09 PM

b'stoner. i like the what for some of the stuff he/she says, even if i don't agree. but can you just delete comments full of profanity directed at other readers. it's bringing everything down so low. last few weeks have been depressing. again, no problem with people disagreeing, just the nasty tone.
-longtime reader.

Posted by: guest at February 18, 2008 2:17 PM

I agree with 2:17, the comments need to be moderated. I'm a long time reader and the nasty tone is really hurting this site. It is becoming like Curbed and really not very interesting to read most of the discussions.

You should have a few rules (e.g. stay on topic, no personal insults) and enforce them.

Posted by: guest at February 18, 2008 2:30 PM

"longtime reader"--what profanity laced offensive remarks has The What written on this thread? Are you serious?

Posted by: guest at February 18, 2008 2:30 PM

Brooklynites are kinda chunky. All that cooking in and staying at home.

Posted by: guest at February 18, 2008 2:37 PM

Looks like he removed the "F*ck Rehab" in parenthesis after 'The What' prom his previous post.

I guess b'stoner is complying with some degree of insult censorship.

Posted by: guest at February 18, 2008 2:45 PM

I agree with 2:17

Please censor us. Please moderate. Please control. We like to be policed and regulated. I'm tired of ignoring the assholes.

We need more cops, more laws, more rules, more restrictions.

Go Internet!

"If the price of that house falls to 500k, will they feel like a genius then?"

The buyer will feel like a genius. The seller will not.

Posted by: guest at February 18, 2008 3:59 PM

11:25, are you kidding? Pls see the one in the maroon tanktop with the muscled arms and legs, first image on page two. Yummm...

2:30, you'd be interested to know that Curbed has just instituted a system whereby a registered user can flag a post for review.

Hopefully my post won't be deleted for sexism.

Posted by: denton at February 18, 2008 6:06 PM

Ok, ok I will try to chill. Do you know why? Because to fireworks are about to begin! I want to be here front and center during the implosion. I will try not to use the F-word but, Asshat and Asshead will still be used. Maybe I can use F-tard or Asstard. Maybe I need to work on that "Ass thing" LMMFAO!

There are no people of color in these photos! Clearly, unmistakably, indubitably, Mr. B, this site, this event, those vendors, and all of you by extension are racists. Filthy, unabashed racists. And the parking lot they had it in too. And so...SO sexist. Sexist, all of you. I'm appalled.

Racists.

Posted by: Jeremy at February 18, 2008 11:02 PM

Jeremy - I think you are kidding right?

What about the first slide - Is that not a "Person of Color"?

Anyhow, I am pretty sure you are just being Facetious.

I can't see a single pacific islander in any of the pics.
I want my money back.
