StreetLevel: Vegetarian Café 'sNice Opening on 5th Ave.

snice-slope-01-2008.JPG
The café that the website SuperVegan calls “arguably the only place worth eating in the West Village” will open in Park Slope within the next few weeks. 'sNice , a vegetarian eatery on West Fourth that specializes in stuff like tempeh Reubens and Philly-style seitan sandwiches is coming to the corner of 5th Avenue and 3rd Street. The opening has been delayed for a few months, but one of 'sNice’s employees told us they’re hoping to be in business before February. GMAP

MMMMM....So excited about this place!!! I love the food!!!

The "meatball" sub is to DIE FOR!!!!

Could 5th Avenue get much better...?

I think they do free WhyFi also...

OH MY OH MY OH MY! Color me excited. I used to live in Chelsea and ate there 1-2x per week. And yes, they do have free wireless(or the one in Chelsea definitely does). I love pretty much everything on the menu. YIPEE!!!

Good news, but the name s'awful.

The amount of new retail that has popped up on 5th in the last 12 months is STAGGERING...

Flight001
GetFresh
Teddy
Maria's Restaurant
AREA Bagels
Tapas place
Canaille French Bistro
AOC bistro
Trois Pommes Bakery
OKO frozen yogurt
Brooklyn Bakery on the way

Those are just a few off the top of my head...

Won't last 12mo

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 2:56 PM

you need to make a new years resolution 2:56.

if you have nothing constructive to say, don't say anything.

this place will be a huge hit. clearly you have no idea how many vegetarians and healthy eaters there are in park slope.

especially those who work from home looking for reasonable lunch selections.

you are truly an idiot if you don't know this place will do just fine.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 3:01 PM

How is vegetarian necessarily healthy eating? Potato salad is vegetarian but isn't health.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 3:04 PM

All the vegetarians I know are doughy fatsos.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 3:07 PM

wow, thanks 2:56 for ruining a perfectly nice thread.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 3:10 PM

Great, bad vegan food. Just what we need. Glad I'm leaving.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 3:16 PM

so are we, 3:16.

one less ahole in park slope.

even better news then the opening of 'snice!!!

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 3:18 PM

s'nasshole.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 3:22 PM

3:01 - you mean like VSpot?

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 3:35 PM

why eat fake meat? another crappy place like Red Bamboo in CH that serves fake fried chicken dishes.

Nothing against a vegetarian restaurant but if going all veggies is so great why try to make them taste/feel like meat?

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 3:38 PM

this place is nothing like vspot.

clearly you've never been to 'snice in the west village, so why are you commenting???

it makes no sense. this place has terrific food, is a cafe where tons of young people like to hang out and work on their computers with free wireless, and has a cute interior (at least the one in the west village does).

vspot isn't great.

although it's still open, i might add. even though i never see anyone in there.

so already that place has made it well beyond 2:56's asinine predictions, even with no customers.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 3:39 PM

3:38...

this place is good because IT DOES TASTE LIKE REAL MEAT!!!

don't knock it till you try it.

this place is special. if anyone has cared to actually read the links and the reviews on 'snice, you'd see that some people say it's their FAVORITE PLACE IN MANHATTAN!!!

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 3:40 PM

Gee, maybe it will be as sucessful as the vegan joint on Court St.? There is always a single sad looking employee in there looking out onto the sidewalk. Whatever. Vegan food is the yang to Mickey D's ying.

Posted by: martis at January 3, 2008 3:52 PM

What negativity. I'm not a vegetarian, and don't even live in Park Slope, but I don't get the bad vibes thrown at this or any other new business.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 3:54 PM

I eat real meat. It also DOES TASTE LIKE REAL MEAT!!!

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 4:05 PM

Hey 3:54, go fuck yourself.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 4:06 PM

I don't understand how comments like 4:06's get to stay on this board. They should not be allowed.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 4:13 PM

I think 4:06 was kidding.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 4:30 PM

s'Nice sounds like s'Not.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 4:43 PM

anyone who says something sounds crappy without trying it is one of two things:

1. an idiot
2. a closed-minded person

or both.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 4:45 PM

I look forward to it. We need a good vegan spot in the Slope and V-Spot is dreadful.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 5:25 PM

I never tried Bush meat or Dog but if I heard a restaurant was opening serving either or both I'd predict its rapid demise. (yeah I know an overstatement)

Vegetarian restaurants generally fail at much more rapid clip then other restaurants.

"Vegetarian restaurants generally fail at much more rapid clip then other restaurants."

Really? Got any stats to back that up? I'm curious.

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 6:20 PM

V Spot sells Bush Meat

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 9:14 PM

the rent is about 10k/mo they must be doing well

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 9:16 PM

Hey, I like the V Spot. But, I can't wait till this new joint opens to see what the fuss is about

Posted by: guest at January 3, 2008 10:29 PM

9:16 - how do you know the rent is around 10k? do you know the exact rent? do you have any idea how big the place is?

Posted by: guest at January 4, 2008 2:45 AM

The rent isnt close to 10K a month

Posted by: guest at January 4, 2008 10:04 AM

how much does a space like that rent for?

Posted by: guest at January 4, 2008 10:58 AM

Man, I wish it was coming to MY neighborhood.

Park Slope - entitled rich jerks who get the good vegan grub.

Posted by: guest at January 4, 2008 12:31 PM

And a Happy New Year to you too, 12;31.

Posted by: guest at January 4, 2008 1:13 PM

For those of you who have never been to their west village spot, i advice checking it out before commenting. Its not only vegetarian food. Its also a coffee shop with amazing home made baked goods. Anyone who likes simple items such as cup cakes bagels and coffee will be ecstatic
