StreetLevel: Papa John’s Comes to Northern 4th Ave.
A Papa John’s has opened on 4th Avenue between Baltic and Butler, no doubt gearing up to deliver pies to the thousands of people who are going to live in the strip’s many new buildings. Think the gooey dipping sauce will be popular in these parts? GMAP

NYC is becoming a big mall. Yuck
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 2:46 PM
never seen a papa johns in a mall.
nyc is becoming a place with more and more choices. nothing wrong with that.
if you don't like papa, don't eat there.
there are about a gazillion other pizza places within a mile radius, who will be more than happy to take your business.
some people like their garlic sauce.

Why anyone buys Papa Johns or Dominos in Brooklyn is completely beyond me.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 2:54 PM
Dominos rules!
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 2:57 PM
Park Slope sucks. Why would anyone want to live there?
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 2:58 PM
well at least it isnt the olive garden.
I still have the urge to vomit from this news.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 3:03 PM
I think I just vomited a little garlic sauce into my mouth.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 3:06 PM
what's the big freakin deal.
there's been 100's of papa johns all over the city for years. there's one on 5th avenue and most of you have no idea it's even there.
but now that you know, you think nyc is over.
it's ABSURD!
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 3:10 PM
fuck all of you
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 3:22 PM
Park Slope is dead. R.I.P.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 3:42 PM
so is jerry garcia.
but he's more popular than ever.
sometimes things have to die to be popular again.

Gabby's 100th stupid post. Why does she post nonsense, I feel I'm reading the Star or US magazine.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 3:57 PM
has anyone ever eaten at papa john's? please give an honest opinion about the pizza. for chain pizza, does it beat domino's, pizzareia unos?
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 4:45 PM
for a chain, papa johns comes in number 2 for me.
pizza hut is number 1.
i don't really eat either, however.
my place is roma on 7th.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 4:55 PM
More and more franchises invading brooklyn.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 5:04 PM
For a chain, Papa Johns is fine by me.
And Dominos is inedible.
Shame on you.
Its like fried chicken
Popeyes is a good chain.
Kennedys is an awesome chain.
KFC is awful.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 5:04 PM
i agree.
i wouldn't eat dominoes if you paid me.
disgusting pizza.
papa johns is not so bad.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 5:16 PM
KFC is fine.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 5:16 PM
Disgusting who in there right mind would order that.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 5:18 PM
i'd order a gallon of the garlic sauce, if i could.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 5:20 PM
i hope they are planning to install new pull downs.
little things like that will go a long way to beautify 4th avenue.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 5:21 PM
Big fucking deal. KFC is 2 blocks away on 4th. and 6 blocks away is CHUCK E Cheese. And Victoria Secrets. I like to take my skinny girlfriend to KFC and then to Victoria for some sexy underthings. I LOVE BROOKLYN, It is just like Indiana. Yeehaw.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 5:26 PM
There is also a McDonald's on 4th Avenue. And a Staples. It's not like chains are anything new along that stretch.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 5:30 PM
agree with some others -- wouldn't eat Dominoes even if paid to do so. i do however eat at Papa John's regularly (the one on Livingston delivers to me). i think Papa John's is yummy as hell, but i don't eat meat so i can't vouch for anything meaty they produce.
if it gives you a sense of whether you can rely on my P.J. recommendation, my other pizza tastes are: i will happily eat a Pizza Hut personal pan pizza if i'm in an airport (or starving at Target/Atlantic Center). as for local shops, i like the slices from My Little Pizzeria on Court (near Atlantic) and Antonio's on Flatbush (near the Q train) for slices and pies.

I have lived in brookyln all my life. Never ate at Papa Johns but thanks Brownstoner now I am going to try it. Hey do you make money on this? If so PLEASE PLEASE send this over to the CEO. I am soooo excited to try Papa Johns now.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 6:34 PM
So what's the deal with the fugly building next door? Condos? Rentals? Is it opening any time soon?
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 6:42 PM
fast food has nothing to do with gentrification.
Go to some bum fuck town in the middle of no where and you will find some kind of fast food chain.
Posted by: guest at January 10, 2008 10:31 PM
hey gabby, i've got your gooey dipping sauce right here!

It's nice to have BOTH choices, the nice sit-down places, and the fast food too. We work from home and we do not always want to spend an hour cooking lunch or pay $10-12 every day for lunch from a nicer, independently owned restaurant. We live near a Popeyes chicken and a couple times a week we get that for lunch. It's good and it's cheap.
Everybody talks the talk about making Brooklyn more affordable for middle-income families, but then gets outraged when big chains come in. Big chains are more affordable. Everyone can't buy all their clothes from fancy little boutiquey-boutiques. Even aside from cost, the selection is extremely limited if it's just tiny boutiques everywhere. It's annoying to always have to go to Manhattan then lug back big heavy bags on the subway, or plan an all-day shopping trip to a mall outside the city.

FYI; The Domino’s on Smith street is one of the longest surviving eateries on Smith. And rumor has it that someone wants to put in a McD’s further down (not sure what the current status of that is). Say what you want about the chains, if they build it they will come.
Posted by: guest at January 11, 2008 12:45 PM
anyone had the cinnastix pizza at domino's? good shit.
Posted by: guest at January 11, 2008 1:34 PM
I think this forum is living proof that everyone has an opinion. An individual's opinion is correct for the individual. But it is still just an opinion. There is no perfect pizza, only one which you believe is perfect because of standards you set for yourself.
