Union Pool Goes Spanish Colonial?

unionpoolbrownstoner.jpg
Everyone loves Union Pool—it’s a great local bar with a long established and huge backyard. The outdoor space went from the standard cracked pavement to a classy built out wood lined courtyard complete with a fire pit in just a few years. Passing by the bar this weekend, we noticed a temporary plywood wall partially hiding a permanent cement block wall topped with Spanish “terra cotta” tiles running nearly the span of the lot. We recall this space being fairly wide open, in the past used as an alternate entrance and more recently for garbage storage, etc. According to a DOB application, there's "no change in use, egress or occupancy" associated with the wall. one neighbor told us the wall has been erected to prevent bar goers from “sneaking in through the back door.” Any one know what’s up? Any wall above 6 feet needs a permit. This one looks like it's 9 to 10 feet tall.

They had issues with the legality of that rear yard - maybe the liquor license didn't cover use of the outdoor space? - possibly related to that.
