Closing Bell: Raising the Roof on 2nd Street
Tonight Community Board 6’s landmarks/land-use committee will consider a Certificate of Appropriateness application submitted to the LPC that involves building a new mezzanine addition on the rooftop of one of the houses on 2nd Street between 8th Avenue and Prospect Park West (in addition to some changes to the rear of the house). As the photo above shows, most of the historic district block has an uninterrupted roofline. so if this is to have any chance of approval it'll have to be set back from the sight line. GMAP

Cookie-cutter, conformist, mindless bandwagon hoppers. It's so funny and sad that these owners and renters in these suburban homes don't realize they live in the suburbs. So lame, they are the epitome of the pot calling the kettle black.

Nice #9:14PM. Ever notice the total flatness of townhouse & rowhouse Brooklyn? It's as flat as North Dakota! Well, we can all thank the selfish nimbys for that. And another thing, why is it that every townhouse and rowhouse owner and renters try to pass off their homes as a brownstone? Get over yourselves, the vast majority of you don't own brownstones; you own the white trash homes for during this time period. If you would like to what real successful people were buying during this time period, you only need to look in the city, 5th ave and comparable areas.
I'll take a 2,500 sf condo with high ceilings & thick concrete floors over your thin as a trailer park rowhouse with 5,000 sf any day!

If you can't see it from the street, why should anyone else care what someone does to their property? If they built it without permission or it was visible from the street, that would be a problem. But if they go before the community board, they're clearly following all the regulations of DOB and Landmarks.

Because, as just about everybody knows, there are a lot, a lot of unemployed nimbys in Brooklyn who have absolutely nothing better to do than to complain and scream about any little thing they can. It makes them feel important.

Could their roof extension block sunlight to the houses and backyards on 1st Street? Has anyone ever built such an extension on the roof of a brownstone?

can anyone confirm this is the house at 609 2nd Street sold last year to the Ravitch Family Trust. Richard Ravitch family--- NYC politician. I will put this out there..

I like townhouses but god damn, some of the NIMBYs here are just plain stupid and very dangerous. I don't think people are against townhouses, they're just against all the entitlement attitudes.

Townhouses are a dime a dozen in Brooklyn. Nothing out of the extraordinary or special. They were mass produced for the low to middle class.
