Anyone Want a Brownstoner Sweatshirt?

brownstoner-sweatshirt-01.jpg
Last week on a whim we popped into Neighborhoodies at 26 Jay Street in Dumbo and ordered a blue American Apparel sweatshirt with "Brownstoner" hand-sewn on the front. It was done in 24 hours and we've barely taken it off since. It wasn't exactly cheap, so we figured we'd give any interested readers a chance to get a group discount. Check out the selection of Classic Lite colors and sizes and then drop us an email at brownstoner@brownstoner.com with your preference. (Note: Like most American Apparel items, these sweatshirts are cut on the slim side.) We'll aggregate all the orders and pass along to Neighborhoodies, who will handle all the billing and delivery. Depending on the response, each sweatshirt should end up costing somewhere in the $40 to $45 range.

Sorry, like the site, but the hoodie makes me cringe a bit...

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 10:32 AM

Mmmmmmm, I love the smell of corporate branding in the morning.

What a funny metaphor here...

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 10:35 AM

cute

Posted by: Mrs. Limestone at January 30, 2008 10:35 AM

what hybris!

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 10:39 AM

what's "hybris?" do you mean hubris? if so, i disagree. the sweatshirts are kind of cool and the site certainly has its share of devoted, rabid fans, so I'll bet there are people who will want the hoodie...

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 10:47 AM

Um, you mean hubris?

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 10:47 AM

i want mine to have double zeros on the back and "the what" on top of the zeros

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 10:48 AM

in the interests of equality can we have a white & black version too?

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 10:56 AM

the pricing like Corcoran's is Overpriced.

On the back will be 'Carrol Gardens', 'Park Slope'...and if you wear it go to a different neighborhood, you will be identified and attacked. Turf wars!!

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:01 AM

sorry, pricing's out of our hands. we're not going to make a cent out of this.

Posted by: brownstoner at January 30, 2008 11:03 AM

You guys are so funny...I love reading your witty responses. And where is the "the What"?

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:04 AM

11:01: I would be more afraid of being jumped by the pro-growth, anti-nimby gang.

soooo... basically free advertisement for brownstoner and I get ?? oh I forgot! I get the joy of paying $45 bucks to advertise a website that I get absolutely nothing from. nice sweatshirt though, I love neighborhoodies even though they're a bit pricey. I've gotten a few items from the bk location and the one in south street seaport but I'll pass on the brownstoner sweatshirt. I don't really think thats cool BUT if this website paid for my kids to go to school and the mortgage on my million-dollar clinton hill brownstone I probably would think it was pretty damn cool!

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:13 AM

I hope Brownstoner is not wearing any pants or he might be in violation of American Apparel's advertising policy.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:14 AM

I like the Brownstoner hoddie.

But neighborhood hoodies we created as irony, not to wear your "Park Slope" hoodie in the Slope.

I live/love the Slope, but would never wear one in this state

Everyone else in the country knows this

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:15 AM

I'd be afraid of getting beat up!

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:17 AM

"a website that I get absolutely nothing from"

You get to tell us all you own a million-dollar clinton hill brownstone and you fell better about yourself

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:17 AM

You better be afraid Carol!

Just kidding. We all love you, really we do. You'd be surprised, I might just give you a big hug and a kiss on the cheek.

Posted by: Polemicist at January 30, 2008 11:18 AM

'The What' is hand sewing the letters B-R-O-W-N-S-T-O-N-E-R on hoodies.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:19 AM

11:17 - I was actually referring to brownstoner, genius.

guess you'll need to be a bit more witty before you can "FEEL better about yourself" for your misinformed commentary.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:20 AM

'The What' is modeling for American Apparel.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:25 AM

$40-$45 dollars, I think that is a good price...it has hign-end lettering..... the 'comps' are, Gap hoodie $39.50.

I think this will sell at this price.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:34 AM

Can I get one with "Racist NIMBY" on it?

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:37 AM

lol@comps for hoodies... you make a compelling point there but sweatshirts from the GAP fit better and you can take them back if you don't like it. an XL at neighborhoodies is like an extra smedium doesn't that count for something?

I do think the sweatshirts are nice though just perhaps not with 'brownstoner' on the front. I'd prefer something classier like 'stuy hood chick' or 'rent control beneficiary', ya know? something along those lines...

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:43 AM

To the uninformed, write on the back

"an unhealthy obsession with historic Brooklyn brownstones and the neighborhoods and lifestyles they define"

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:48 AM

"sorry, pricing's out of our hands. we're not going to make a cent out of this."

Not directly, but you will certainly realize the benefit of free advertising from the walking, talking billboards you will have created. That's definitely worth something.

Next season's Brownstoner line of fashion, will include:

Tote Bags - for all the open house listings.
Running Shoes - Visit open houses in comfort and style.
Wallet - large enough to hold 3 million dollars in small bills.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 12:08 PM

give him a beak

Its not like the hoddie has a .com on the end

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 12:25 PM

I'll wait for next year and pick it up cheap at the garage sale.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 12:25 PM

Cororcan is selling the Carroll Gardens hoodies for $100. C'mon its Carroll Gardens!

Fuhgeddaboudit!

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 12:28 PM

With all the foreclosures and the tightening of lenders...I don't know if I can get approved for a loan of $45.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 12:37 PM

'Cororcan is selling the Carroll Gardens hoodies for $100. C'mon its Carroll Gardens!'

Oh, now you've done it....now all the 'brokers' are going to come on here and say that it's a fair price for a hoodie. GREAT!!

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 12:39 PM

Im waiting for my tax refund

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 12:51 PM

I'm the broker for the hoodie. I didn't price the hoodie. I provided comprable sales and advised the seller what I think the price should be. They listened and then My client set the price for $5 more. Other hoodie sellers will think 'Well, if that hoodie is priced at $45, than I can get $45 for mine.'

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 12:52 PM

I think the broker for this hoodie is from Manhattan, and is clueless about the Brooklyn market.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 1:17 PM

I've had my Clinton Hill hoodie (without the hood) for years now from Neighborhoodies. He's not making any money off of this. I think its a nice idea, especially since I'm not one of those snarky 'guest' commenters.

Posted by: gwbrubaker at January 30, 2008 1:19 PM

Mr. B has nice broad shoulders.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 2:11 PM

Mr. B needs to take the hoodie off and show us what's underneath. prrrr.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 2:37 PM

Take your clothes off, Brownstoner. We want to see you naked.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 3:32 PM

That hoodie will be worthless once Atlantic Yards is built.

I can't believe I'm the first commenter to say that! What do I win?

But honestly- why are so many of you so bitter about B'stoner? Because he could afford to buy a brownstone and did so and never apologized? Because he's trying to make a living doing something that started as a hobby and quickly gained a loyal, borderline rabid following? What's the big deal? And don't a SINGLE ONE OF YOU try to act like you never wore a tee shirt with your favorite band on it or a jacket with Adidas or The North Face or the like on it; tennis shoes with a swoosh? It's ALL free advertising. Christ, some of you should go live in an organic-nudist off-the-grid free love compound the way you whine and cry outrage at every little thing. This is a city: different races, classes, religions and ideas all crammed into a relatively small bit of land. What is it that makes you imagine that what's important and correct and motivating to you should be the same for your neighbors? If you find B'stoner too 'yuppie' or 'nimby' or 'white' or 'pro/anti' what is it that compels you to visit this site and post comments? For instance:I don't watch Bill O'Reilly or Hannity and Colmes; it's NOT FOR ME. See how that works?

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 4:03 PM

In all seriousness, I'd get one, but I won't patronize a company run by someone like Dov Charney.

Posted by: ProfRobert at January 30, 2008 4:55 PM

"And don't a SINGLE ONE OF YOU try to act like you never wore a tee shirt with your favorite band on it or a jacket with Adidas or The North Face or the like on it"

I never did any of these things.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 4:59 PM

Chill out, 4:03, and stop whining and crying about every little post.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 5:01 PM

Prof--You may be thinking of American Apparel.

Posted by: Carol Gardens at January 30, 2008 7:47 PM

Whoop! My bad. I see that Neighborhoodies USES American Apparel shirts. Oh well, buy your own sweatshirt and some iron-on letters and make it a crafts project.

Posted by: Carol Gardens at January 30, 2008 7:49 PM

I totally agree with 4:03. She/he is not the one whining and crying.

4:49 is the most perfect person ever.

Posted by: guest at January 30, 2008 11:24 PM

I think most of us know that if we wore that in public we would get totally beaten up by the likes of minorities and others who have been systemically berated over and over again on this blog. I find it completely stupid and useless of brownstoner to think he can subject peopole to being literally beaten up after years of blogs about bad minorities, sellers, brokers, etc, etc. just so HE can make yet another buck. Would you all wake the #($^W# up already and realize that you would basically be subjected to anything and everything if you were seen with this and then Mr. B's retort would probably be "well its feedom of speech" and "have a right to do it". Be wiser and perhaps his supplier can do a HATE BROWNSTONER version. Now thats an idea. Maybe another entrepeneur might want to think of that or a blog with a similar concept.
