Old Bodegas = New 'Autour du Monde'

Autour120307.jpg
It's been common knowledge for the better part of this year that the former Bodegas space at the corner of Clinton and Fulton was by PACC to the folks who already own three places in the neighborhood (Pequena, Moe's, Maggie Brown and Olea). What's been less clear is what the new owners planned to do with it. After seeing a candlelit dinner underway on Saturday, we stopped by this morning to confirm that we weren't imagining things. Sure enough, the new restaurant—called Autour du Monde—is open for business. From a passing glance at the menu we'd see say it's eclectic French food. For lunch, for example, you can have a Croque Monsieur or a Mediterranean Frittata. Anyone been yet?

The Pequena clan dropped out of the running a while back. Someone else is running this place.

Good news.

While discussing Fulton Street in Clinton Hill, I've heard there's a new restaurant and Grand and Fulton. Anyone know what it is?

Also heard a rumor on Brooklynian.com that Bargains R Us may be closing in the near future and that Union Market might want to open there? That was the first time I'd heard that. Any truth to it. I thought that Union Market was expanding to Ft. Greene, down near the Forte building.

I had brunch there yesterday and it was really good, they are still organizing things around, the space looks nice and clean, people are very friendly, I believe that Olivier, (owner) used to work at chez oskar, the prices are good as well, I will go soon to try their dinner, let's support this people that are pioneers on fulton ! Good luck

11:18 - did you read this rumor on a blog in Brooklynian? That would be great if they moved to that spot! There are already a couple of nice grocers in Ft Greene by the Forte building.

I had a nice brunch there yesterday, they told me that they will start with all their publicity from this week, friendly, good food and fair prices, some nice plants in there to warm up the ambiance will be nice at least until it gets filled with costumers!

Where is there a nice grocer in Fort Greene near the Forte building? I live near there, and would find that to be great news.

Wifey and I ate there last night after walking by and being surprised it was already open. We enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and tasty food (Waldorf salad was stellar). I encourage people to support this place, as its success will help expedite revitalization on Fulton.

Later that night I made a pot of red beans and rice and ate the entire thing at home. French restaurant portions are a little petite for me.

Any truth to the Union Market rumors?

that rumor about union market was nixed some time ago.

they are just about to open a second store on 7th avenue and 13th street in park slope in about 2 weeks.

they won't be expanding to a third store anytime soon, from what i heard.

I was there on Saturday morning, fairly early in the morning, and everyone was really nice (seems like some French people running the spot), but there were some kinks in the food. Eggs were a bit watery, bland salad, but the potatoes were good. I definitely plan on going back though for dinner, and if people had good brunches there yesterday, they must have worked out their first brunch jitters pretty quickly.

I walked by there last night and was surprised to see it. It was completely empty and looked huge. Even more surprised to find out I could have gotten a Waldorf salad along a stretch where I was feeling slightly nervous about the footsteps that were trailing me for several blocks.

after all the complaints about not having anything around here this is the time to support this people, let's go and show that we are here for them! so more will open....

Posted by: guest at December 3, 2007 3:14 PM

only support it if it's good not JUST because it's there!!!

stop deculturing our city, please.

let's have SOME standards!

Posted by: guest at December 3, 2007 3:31 PM

the place is good, isn't pastis but is good, nobody is deculturing our city I'm just giving them credit for doing something little more upscale and not the crap that we have seen around here until now, I like this place that's all.

Posted by: guest at December 3, 2007 3:56 PM

what are your standards 3;31? have you been there yet?

Posted by: guest at December 3, 2007 3:57 PM

I stopped in for a glass of wine, and they don't have any yet...the woman who greeted me was very pleasant and told me wine would be coming in a month or so. Until then, bring your own...I like that.

Went last night with husband, it is upscale well executed French bistrot. He had a very good organic hanger steak with frites, and the portion was big, I had the French onion soup and the recommended Waldorf salad. We brought our own wine, and the owner and his wife (Olivier and Pauline) were very nice and they introduced us to the chef Pascal. As it was said before, it is cash only for now, and they are going to serve breakfast lunch and dinner every day (starting at 7:30, can somebopy PLEASE report on their baked on premises croissants and pain au chocolat???) and brunch on Sat and Sunday (I think 10-4). Prices are fair for the quality, compare with say Speakeasy? They said the construction machinery in front makes them virtually invisible so spread the word, it was supposed to be removed a while ago! Also a water shutoff (unannounced to them!) prevented them from opening for breakfast yesterday but all is well. I think they deserve support that corner looks ALIVE now!

I ate there last night with my husband, and the food was very good. All the ingredients tasted fresh and flavorful. And it seems a bit healthier than my notion of French food- not as butter-intensive. Prices were reasonable. I liked the decor (but it was echo-y since the place was practically empty). I hope this place stays around.

I ate there the other day, and I loved it! You could tell its still working out some kinks, but I think this place has a lot of potential. Lets hope it stays around...this stretch of Fulton is like a ghost town.

I love Autour du Monde!!! Wonderful addition to the fast changing area. The owners/servers/bartenders are simply amazing. Warm friendly atmosphere. The place is grand! Fabulous room for large parties. Wine list is simple and affordable. The food is certified organic and everything is made from scratch. I was there for brunch yesterday. I had the best Croque Monsieur ever! It was delicious...so delicious in fact that i even considered ordering a second one!!! Loving the international concept!
