Hmm, so that explains why my Monday morning FreshDirect delivery didn't ever arrive and was rescheduled for Tuesday (after 5 phone calls). Of course the CSR didn't tell me they lost 10% of their employees. Bummer, I like FreshDirect; their guys work hard and deserve to be paid appropriately (illegal or not).

On the corner of Fulton and S. Oxford, there used to be a hardware store- now it's being renovated but the workers won't tell me what's going to be there....anyone know? Has Brownstoner posted about this yet?

Just wondering how many Fresh Direct customers oppose Wal*Mart? Maybe it's OK for affluent gourmands to enjoy the services of an exploited workforce, but no way should working class people have access to low prices.

Could you imagine a headline like "Housing for Puerto Rican Catholics coming to Williamsburg"? This kind of segregation is blatantly illegal.
As a secular Jew, I wouldn't want to live in a building full of Orthodox Jews who didn't want me there, but I'm still constantly amazed at how openly discriminatory they can be without anyone batting an eye.
