Columbia Street Assisted Living Facility Comes Into Focus
As far as non-profit residential buildings go, this one at 169 Columbia Street in the Columbia Waterfront District is shaping up quite nicely. The brick color is refreshing, windows are large and the facade appears to (so far) be free of any silly faux retro stylings. A good argument for keeping lower-budget projects simple. You feeling it?

The condo buyers on the lower floors of 60 Tiffany are certianly feeling it in the pooper right about now.

Still has brand-name air-conditioning covers under every window, no? What ever happened to central air and heat?

I am quite happy with the way these have turned out. They really are a whole lot nicer than I expected and than a lot of the other crap that is going up in Brooklyn. Part of the building being recessed helps a lot too.

Huh, that building in the foreground with the round window sold for $3.2M in 2005. I bet they're not exactly thrilled.

I don't know. Besides the noise from the occasional ambulance, I wouldn't mind living next door to an assisted living home.

What is faux-retro? The ornamentations we see on Brownstone facades dates back to Roman Times and was used heavily in renaissance europe. Good design and attractive ornament are never faux. But butt ugly buildings are an eyesore from drawing to demolition.

OH MY GOD?! I know it's an assisted living facility but does it have to look like 1930's Russia? Who actually says let's design some shit today and actually build it. Any decent architect or developer knows you don't have to spend a fortune to make a decent looking building. Put some heart and soul into something that will be around for a hundred years, unfortunately in this case! They couldn't even match the street wall?? What's up with the one lonely sore thumb crapbalcony? My god what a disaster. This borough is so frustrating!!!
