Video: Reigniting The Boiler Pilot Light
Today we wrap up our 4-part boiler series with a tutorial in how to reignite your pilot light. Many thanks to John Cataneo of Gateway Plumbing for all his thoughtful on-camera work. We'd love to hear your input for future how-to video topics.

How about a tutorial on how to wire and install a rooftop antenna, to pull in free broadcast HDTV? (Full disclosure: I Posted this question on the Forum today, but so far no one has commented...does everyone but me in this town have cable?)

I have a furnace rather than a boiler, but I suppose pilot light operation is similar.
Many years ago when someone from Brooklyn Union Gas [yes, it was THAT long ago] showed me how to operate my system, he told me to make sure my pilot light remained on all Summer to provide enough heat to keep parts dry and rust-free. Is that good advise?

Bob Marvin,
That's good advice as long as you've got a cast-iron boiler (which you probably do).
That's also why I often advise against spark or hot surface ignition systems.

Thank you John. As I wrote, I have a furnace rather than a boiler, but I guess it's still good advice.
I sometimes WISH I had a boiler--hot water heat is a lot more comfortable than hot air, even if it is a lot more complicated to use and maintain.

Thank-you so much, I have a newer boiler that I didn't know how to light, but after some quick reading and this video, I had the concepts down and was able to regain heat in my home!
Again, thank-you for this informative explanatory video.
