321 gets a "B." Is that the sound of property values plummeting??? I always said those people were a bunch of "just slightly above average" pretenders.

Oh surprise surprise, Wells Fargo in the news again charged with unscrupulous lending practices and facing sanctions from the court. Never ever use Wells Fargo.

PS 32 got a B and 58 got a D. I guess Gowanus property just sky rocketed. These grades are ridiculous. What a waste of time and money. Time and money that could have been better spent in the classroom. I wonder what this little experiment cost.

The public school letter grades that were just given out are, IMO, preposterous!

They DO NOT match up with the intensive, detailed and in-depth reports that were released last month. My child's elementary school received an absolutely GLORIOUS written review, suggesting VERY FEW changes to be made for improvement and yet the school received a "C." We were convinced after reading the report that the school would probably get an "A." We also have been at the school for three years and feel it's absolutely wonderful, as does www.insideschools.org

I don't know what's going on here, but I suspect political shenanigans and I recommend that parents searching for schools DO NOT utilize these grades as the only criteria for the selection of their child's school.

I still feel that www.insideschools.org is a much more honest assessment of a particular school's strengths and weaknesses.

Will be interesting to see the blowback to Chancellor Klein and the Department of Education.

It cost 80 million dollars. I guess all the families clamoring for variances for ps 58 because they don't want to send their kids to 32 will rush back. Or perhaps start trying to get into PS 15 in Red Hook which got an A. Or perhaps not.

Unfortunately, the grades are more about trying to prop up failing schools instead of informing parents, and it certainly didn't need $80 million dollars that could have been spent directly for education (maybe reducing class sizes?) to tell parents that their failing schools were trying very hard and making some progress. But why tell schools that have fantastic test scores that they are "failing" or "mediocre" simply because the number of kids exceeding the standards fell from 95% to 94% one year? (Which is what the letter grades are based upon.) That is really not helping parents make a thoughtful decision, since most parents would much prefer to send a kid to a D school where 80-90% of the kids regular score above grade level than an "A" school which showed amazing improvement because now 10% instead of 5% of the kids are passing. I would much rather have seen that money spent elsewhere.

waa waa waa
my children are the best

9:48 am this isn't about the kids being "better" at all. If you were a parent, you might be mor concerned about the huge waste of money spent on this that could have helped struggling kids.

I loved the example the BOE used to explain how to read the report cards - what percentage of schools achived what percentage of attendence levels. Sigh. What a waste of money.

Untrue, 4:31--I own you. And you're shit.

Uh hello out there - what are you when you become excited over a neighborhood elementary school that is not rated the best? Silly - even if you're a retard, your good senses should want all schools to be performing well. Don't let your bloggering over-rule your good senses - that keyboard can be your worst enemy if you don't have control over your senses!

Also, if you think hiding your WRITTEN COMMENTS behind your IP address cloaks your identify - that is simply a joke - folks know who you are - it's recorded, silly one! Start helping those neighborhood schools - don't waste time disdaining them - their products may aid or save you in the future.
