Rental of the Day: Turkey Time in Cobble Hill
This rustic rental listing caught our eye because the owners are looking to let their Cobble Hill 1-bedroom for only three weeks from now through Thanksgiving. The $2,500 price tag doesn’t seem totally off the wall given the location (Baltic at Court) and amenities (washer/dryer, dishwasher, garden access), but we wonder how many nibbles they’re going to get for such a short lease period. Anyone have experience renting a pad for the holidays?

They must not have appreciated the Brownstoner love, because they deleted the post from Craigslist. Damn-- I would have gladly paid $2500 for a place for my family to have thanksgiving other than my place....

we once rented our apt out for 3 days to the family of a friend. happened to be the exact 3 days we'd be out of town for thanksgiving. they offered $175 per night.
$2500 for 3 weeks is less than $120 a day, pretty cheap for nyc. what other options are there if you're looking for an extended stay in the city?

I think renting to family of friends is one thing but I would be pretty reluctant to rent it out on Craigslist.

craigslist is a pretty common place to look for temporary housing, 3:26. get with the program. it's also a popular site to do vacation trades.

Ugh,
I would not dream of renting my home out unless it were for a really long time...and even then. For such short periods it seems one would expose oneself to so many needless risks just for a little bit of gain. We have a friend, a professor, who sublets his place using one of those sabbatical-rental websites since he leaves NYC for long stretches. His apartment in the Village is very pared down without too much junk. Everything looks nice but he doesn't have anything "good". Frankly, I think he wouldn't care if a subletter broke all the dishes. He has a Manhattan Mini-Stuffit and throws clothes and things in his closet there to make room for subletters. If you have the nerve for subletting, go ahead. Have heard of people doing it for super short periods...and on the open market. But my hair would stand on end. What? Is my home some kind of time-share?
