I hope you advocates of NYC biking are happy now that another young person is dead. How many more will have to lose their lives? You people should be ashamed of yourselves.

8:59...that is without a doubt the most despicable post I've ever read.

Posted by: guest at November 19, 2007 9:33 AM

8:59 i prey you get run over by a bike.

Posted by: guest at November 19, 2007 9:38 AM

Man, there is ill-informed, there is philosophically opposed and there is intentionally provocative, but 8:59's post is really beyond the pale. The shame is your's, 8:50, not the people who advocate for safer bicycle riding. Did you even read the article in the Post?

"Safe bicycle riding in NYC" is an oxymoron. The earlier poster is absolutely right. Organizations that advocate for bicycle riding in NYC have blood on their hands.

RE: "Safe bicycle riding in NYC" is an oxymoron.

Incorrect.

Safe bicycle riding in NYC while intoxicated, as the unfortunate rider was, however, is perhaps an oxymoron.

It had nothing to do with biking advocacy. The man was drunk, drove onto the wrong section of the bridge, and due to his own negligence fell onto the roadway. His own mistakes cost the guy his life.

Whether the guy was drunk or not is irrelevant. Plenty of people have died in NYC on bikes. Were they all drunk? I don't think so. And even if they were drunk and even if they were negligent, that doesn't matter. The point is that the kinds of negligence you can COUNT ON under real life conditions, with real riders, are likely to cost you your life in NYC.

What a heartless bunch of mother fuckers you are. This guy just died and you assholes are already trying to fill a second vacancy in the cemetery.

Posted by: guest at November 19, 2007 3:11 PM

Yeah, and that second vacancy is going to be for you, asshole.

"What a heartless bunch of mother fuckers you are. This guy just died and you assholes are already trying to fill a second vacancy in the cemetery."

You're breaking my heart. You think I'm going to set up a memorial or something?? The jackass got drunk (entirely relevant, since drinking impairs decision-making) and fell off the bridge. DRUNK people shouldn't ride bikes onto the CAR lane of a major bridge. He got HIMSELF killed. Get over it.

8:59... I hope someone kicks the shit out of you.

Re: As Owners Feel Mortgage Pain, So Do Renters [NY Times]

Very relevant article. I have a friend who was evicted from her Harlem apartment in 2001 because the co-op landlord was foreclosed on.

while the initial post was pretty cold... i have my own problems with the nyc biking community. as a pedestrian, i'm tired of them riding on the sidewalk. i understand the street is a deathride, but you know what? that's not my problem.

that said, i'm sorry this young man died--though it basically just seems to be a case of drunk riding.
