Dueling Light Shows in BAM Cultural District

While the clock face at One Hanson was turned on for the first time last night, the public plaza in front of the Forte was illuminated with Christmas lights. Tis the season.

The Forte water tower is aglow with changing lights as well.

What about those new LED lights in the big BAM windows? I find them so cool... somebody post a picture please!

Wow!

Now...it will be wonderful when they get the clock keeping time. Isn't it supposed to be a year or two until that "time".

Forte: It does "tower" over the nabe...but it's not going anywhere. Welcome shade. At least it's set back decently instead of being built to the sidewalk.

I know you're paid to advertise the Forte, that outrageously overpriced eyesore that will be surrounded by other ugly shademaking buildings soon, but is this really noteworthy?...or just another sad excuse to plug your sponsor? Or is it an intentionally pathetic post meant emphasize why the Forte cannot sell...a brilliant scheme to keep the advertiser on this site longer than the ages they've been advertising on this site?

Curently there is very little to mention architectually in the BAM area. I don't see it as advertising to show some Christmas lights. Besides, the real lighting for the Forte' is the multicolored water tower thing on the roof.

I wonder what the "landscaped" roofdeck that they advertised will look like. Anyone up there since the lights? Is there a disco ball and turntables too?

I was up there on Sunday. Nothing to speak of on the roof yet. This was before the lights, though. (Which I still haven't seen -- I'm out of town this week.)

I visited Forte a couple of days ago. The apartments felt very good inside. Excellent layouts. However I would agree over priced. Amazingly, they expect people to be moving in within a month.

9:40 - You may want to ask the Clarett Group shill who was in the NYT a few days ago...She went to the roof with the NYT reporter yet failed to address the glaring issue - if the place is so great, why are seventy-five percent of the buildings still unsold? Or you may want to ask the crack sales staff who have taken to offering food and drink to anyone willing to hear the open house sales pitch. I agree with you though, I wouldn't want to see the place, in person, either.

Found this on a broker listing

Looks like a lit table of some sort on the roof.

Also found this link on Craigslist.

My move in is Dec 20th

11:13 - How much are they paying you to live IN a construction site? Most of the apartments remain unfinished and the halls are dusty and dirty. Good luck with the noise from the Brooklyn Hospital ambulances, exorbitant CCs, strangers roaming your halls as they try to finish selling the place for the next couple years, the two huge construction projects that will soon start across the street, trying to not sell at a loss in a few years when the CCs will be well over $1k/mo and the Nevins Street train station area still looks like a scene from Escape from New York.

brownstoner, please buy yourself a new camera.

These lights will be worthless once AY is built...

FYI
-I am looking to ACTUALLY live there, I have a business on 3rd ave it'll be a nice stroll to work every day.
-I party in manhattan on weekends, being so close to the atlantic hub was a reall buying point for me.
-Only 4 units per floor so I'm not worried about wanderers.
-Dusty? Dirty? c'mon
-Lastly i'm on the Brooklyn Brownstone/ft Green pk side so not worried about my view nor construction.

Thanks for your concern.

10:32: I created a Google group for future Forte residents. Feel free to join!

hey 10:32 that was a sweet and subtle come back:) Congrats with the purchase I live close to Forte and would buy there in an instant if i could afford it.

Posted by: guest at November 30, 2007 2:13 PM

2:13, 10:32 - Yeah great comeback...as long as you ignore his failure to address the matters of the Brooklyn Hospital ambulance sirens every day and night, the ridiculously high carrying costs (which will only increase), the Death Wish II scene that is the Nevins Street subway station area after 3p.m., the massive number of unsold units at this not-new-at-all building, and the construction work that will continue INSIDE the building for the forseeable future as they try to finish the apartments there.
You'll also have a great perch from which to hear the screams of those being assaulted at Ft. Greene park in broad daylight (read the crime blotter in your local paper).
Keep rationalizing. That's the same logic that had you pay the asking price in a building that will not be able to finish selling its units any time soon.
Also, stay tuned for deja vu, you'll be hearing 2:13's comment all the time when you decide to try to sell your place - "i'd buy in an instant, if I could afford it."
Hopefully you bought your place with money you did not work for yourself.

My wife and I lived in Fort Greene for a number of years, and trained for several races and marathons here and abroad in that park with the same name.

We were also active in the Park Conservancy and plan to do the same in our new neighborhood - the only reason for moving was for more space, and if we could have stayed, we would certainly have. We were neighbors with people who have lived there for several decades, all a lot of nice people who lived there, and still live there. 10:32, enjoy your ownership in a great neighborhood, take the time to explore the great restaurants, and shops, along Dekalb Avenue.
