Streetlevel: Moroccan Food Coming to Former Liquors Space

It looks like someone has stepped up to pay the high rent that was being asked for the former Liquors space at 219 Dekalb Avenue. According to an announcement for a community hearing that was recently posted in the window, the new tenant will be a French Moroccan organic restaurant. Anyone know whether they were able to get their liquor license? Update: A reader suggests via email that there may already be 3 full liquor licenses within 500 feetRed Bamboo, Bonita, and Alibiand that these folks may have to settle for wine and beer only.

Actually, The Brooklyn Paper covered this two months ago. And the story about the Royal Retreat hotel was covered by http://www.amylangfield.com/ last week. It seems wrong not to link to these earlier stories...

Yeah, The Brooklyn Paper covered this story two months ago, but the story is wrong. Nadir from Cafe Lafayette told me that someone else is opening the place in the old Liquors space. (If you get the story wrong, is it still a scoop? Newspaper of the year, my ass.)
This application does trigger the "500-foot rule." The community board can either point that out to the State Liquor Authority or recommend that the application be approved anyway.

I heard that Nadir is managing the restaurant for someone else. But it is his in that he is operating it. So the Brooklyn Paper's story actually looks right to me.

Okay, 10:49. I take it back. Nadir lied to my face. Man, do I feel small. Funny, the guy who came to the community board disavowed any relationship to Nadir as well. Maybe it's more than a lie ... it's a conspiracy!

if you're worried about inaccuracy, you probably shouldn't be getting your news from brownstoner...
