Seen Better Days on Montgomery Street

130MontgomeryStreet.jpg
Forgive our ignorance, but what's the story with this old brick building at 130 Montgomery Street? It's looks like an armory but the original C of O we dug up from 1912 says it was a factory. GMAP P*Shark

Wasn't it a part of the Consumers' Park Brewery, whose smokestack still is next door?
Had a beer garden and everything, and had a subway stop [south of Botanical Garden on the Franklin Shuttle] ...
Hey - head over to Ebbets Field, catch a beer ...

A friend of mine converted a former garage space for Ebbets Field into a beautiful living space with artists studio on this same block just on the other side of the S train tracks from this building. Part of the studio is for rent:

You may not remember, but there was a time there were factories in Brooklyn, lots of them ...

There are some interesting stories circa 1898-9 in the Brooklyn Eagle on the factory as well. Apparently it was considered an excellent place for a beer garden because Washington Ave. was popular with bicyclists. When building the factory, hotel, 1000 seat beer garden & music hall the developers claimed there would be "nothing about it in appearance that will not be in keeping with the location." (Brooklyn Eagle 1/13/1898) Hmmm, where have I heard a developer claim that before?
