Development Watch: 340 Bond Outgrows Cinderblock Phase

bunkergetswoody.JPG
The condo at Bond and Carroll that Gowanus Lounge has dubbed the Bunker because of its sparing use of windows has started to sport some exterior wood paneling (which bears no small resemblance to the exterior at 326 State Street). At the very least, the new look makes the Scarano-designed 340 Bond seem a lot less repellent than when it was just a collection of cinderblocks. Think there’s hope for this one?

I was thinking the same thing. I noticed this used on a development on driggs by mccarren park as well.

An interesting reaction against the wall o' glass look. Seems like the interiors might be a little dark.

The real shame is what they tore down there. A lovely old carriage house and an old hansom carriage repair shop.... which was a motorcycle repair shop right before they tore it down.

I wonder what they tore down to build the carriage house.

They tore down a methadone clinic to build the carriage house.LOL
I like it, we can't stay in the 19th century forever.

boy is that UGLY!

Posted by: guest at October 17, 2007 2:44 PM

Oh my, that really is ugly, and that material is known to leak. Who signed off on those windows, the prison of the future.

Posted by: guest at October 17, 2007 3:18 PM

It's perfectly contextual, meaning it's just about as ugly as everything else on that crappy block.

NYC real estate continues to astound me. WTF is this?

I think I've found the target market for this place: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mooninites

i heard that the panels have a 50 year garunty.
the pannels are only a cover and the waterproofing is done under the panals
