Condo of the Day: 140 Degraw Street
When we first posted about 140 Degraw this summer, reader comments on the exterior design ranged from “major fugly” to “very beautiful.” Fugly-beautiful’s six units have now hit the market as the Tiffany D Condos, with prices starting at $565,000 for a 919-square-foot duplex studio with 1.5 baths and going up to $975,000 for a 1,255-square-foot duplex studio with a private backyard. The interiors are looking pretty airy and high-ceilinged, but you gotta wonder whether the slightly out-of-the-way/BQE-side location is going to be a major Achilles’ heel for this one.

Price obvs ridiculous--steps from BQE! Also, how do you maintain privacy with those gigantic glass windows being as low as they are?

ridiculous prices for an extremely ugly building.

They're called CURTAINS

Doesn't exactly blend with the neighboring architecture does it?
Posted by: guest at October 22, 2007 1:41 PM
Good Job, I think it looks cool!

Glass window/privacy complainer - that is certainly not an issue for people these days, hence Meier and 20 million other all glass buildings. Not my taste certainly, but clearly to some people's taste.

Seems pricey given that the location is on the other side of the BQE.

If you look at website - the 2 bedroom floorthru layout is priced at $750k.
Yes, $750k is lot of money but I don't think you will find a renovated floor thru on other side of BQE for under $850k.

I think for a 100k savings people should be willing to live in this not so ugly place. Something is pricey only in comparison to other things, and I must agree with 2:55 there are no equivalnet prices to this in the area. Just look at the condo reno on union st on the other side of the bqe with prices over 1mm. What is really pricey?

don't hate it, but could find siimilar condos with a much better location to food, shopping, transportation in williamsburg at the same sq. foor price or lower.

It looks like a giant space robot squatted atop the neighboring structures and dropped a turd in between them.
Posted by: guest at October 22, 2007 4:57 PM
I like it better than the brownstones next to it which should be torn down, they look like crap. Though the floor plan of this place looks bad.
Posted by: guest at October 22, 2007 5:49 PM
Space robot seems to be crapping all over the place, doesn't he?

You seriously think those houses look like crap? They're just straightforward modest row houses. I don't find them ugly at all.

Hideous building in a crappy location. 'Nuff said.

There are quite a few people who actually chose to be on the other side of the highway. Most likely to get away from the idiots who post on these boards... excluding me of course...i'm not an idiot.

I like this building! the area is undergoing many changes, so I guess thats an opportunity. Being on the other side of the BQE far from being a disadvantage its in fact and advantage in my belief, as it fronts on the river and many projects for parks and bike-paths are supposed to start being built.

like it mucho. nice area the other side of BQE

I have to agree with 4:37. If you're after this sort of modernesque new construction, you'll do better in Williamsburg.
Posted by: guest at October 22, 2007 10:27 PM
Williamsburg? red hook has much more character than willyb. I'd choose red hook over willyb with no second thoughts. willyb is over rated red hook rocks especially with new construction like this. thumbs up !

Red Hook? You're joking right? What's the appeal? The ugly housing stock, the massive projects, or the complete lack of subways?

AMAZING !!! A seed to a new modern approach in the area. Keep up the original and innovative spirit !
