Coney Vendors Get Stay; Astroland May be Next

astrolandpark.jpg
Another day, another ride on the Coney Island redevelopment roller coaster. This morning there’s word that Thor Equities has offered lease renewals to eight boardwalk vendors, including the Shoot the Freak arcade, Ruby’s Bar and Grill, and souvenir shop Lola Staar. And remember all that news last week about Astroland being shuttered for good? Now it’s looking “real good” that the amusement park will re-open next summer, according to Councilman Domenic Recchia Jr, who is trying to broker a deal between Thor and Astroland’s operators. Stay tuned: More twists and turns are almost certainly in store.

Glad to hear Joe Sitt is wising up, and recognizing that little development can get done in NYC without public support.
