Development Watch: 235 Gold Street

235GoldStreet0707.jpg
At the corner of Gold and Concord Streets in Downtown Brooklyn, the Lazerian family is in the process of trying to get its plans approved for a large residential tower. A New York Sun article in June reported that they wanted to build a 600,000-square-foot building with over 500 apartments and 100,000 square feet of retail and parking but a DOB application from April (that was disapproved) called for only 377 units taking up 326,000 square feet of space over 12 floors. Anyone know which version is closest to the truth? In the meantime, the father-son team has only been able to put up a sidewalk shed. GMAP P*Shark DOB

this area needs more affordable housing

Posted by: manny at July 19, 2007 12:29 PM

Not really.

Posted by: Anonymous at July 19, 2007 12:39 PM

manny, the area needs more market-rate housing to attract the people who make the money to pay for the "affordable" housing that is occupied by people who can't afford to live here.

Posted by: city boy at July 19, 2007 12:43 PM

There was a HUGE buy out of the long term tenants. For one business, they walked away with several million dollars.

No affordable housing going in here.

Posted by: Action Jackson at July 19, 2007 12:45 PM

f*ck you midwestern pricks
the only reason we are being priced out is becuase you pansies are overpaying for crap with daddy's money

only real newyorkers should be allowed in these new developments, and prices should be capped!

Posted by: manny at July 19, 2007 12:47 PM

only real new yorkers? wow, you are ignorant. if only real yorkers were allowed to live in nyc, you'd have a city of about 500,000.

get a clue, man.

if you took the time to leave bath beach once in a while, you'd realize nearly everyone here is from somewhere else.

Posted by: anon at July 19, 2007 12:59 PM

Manny, "real newyorkers" can fend for themselves and don't need price caps or public assistance to live in the area.

I guess you're pissed because you're being "priced out".

Goodbye, Manny--don't let the door hit you on the ass on your way out.

Myrtle Avenue? Ah, that explains it.

Manny must live in the Farragut Houses.

Maybe if you got a job, you wouldn't be "priced out"...

2:23- I guess you're trying to get people to stop acting like jerks, which is admirable...but who ever said that the posts here are consistent with the bopping of the head due to hip hop?

I guess Myrtle Ave is showing signs of improvement. Are you part of that, Manny? Doesn't sound like it.

Ahhh. The threat. What's your ethnic origin, Manny? As if I had to guess.

Manny, you and other peeps with your attitude are the peeps Brooklyn can live without. The way real estate prices are going, and the way Brooklyn's renewal is headed says you're going to leave the borough sooner rather than later.

Bloomberg's massive rezoning activity and the stunning demand for condos and houses is putting a lot of pressure on renters who want to believe The Peoples' Republic of Brooklyn will provide them with heavily subsidized apartments forever.

Manny's a lady-man

Posted by: anon at July 19, 2007 8:18 PM

I think I saw a rendering a while back, looked pretty generic tan and red brick with setbacks and stuff kind of reminiscent of the anthem in manhattan

Posted by: gc at July 19, 2007 9:33 PM

Can we get this childish arguing out of the way? There are honest, decent people that are making a home in this neighborhood, myself being one, and most of us are excited about the development happenings. As some might know, we have no markets, restaurants (worth eating at), and few amenities. It seems that the only ones not excited are the ones in the projects. Do you not want more amenities?
For some real news about the development: The smaller buildings are being demolished as we speek. I am not certain but the Pinnacle Storage might be next according to a NY Post map about a month back. As for the future building, I believe that the plans are close to being finalized pending permits. I am sure there will be an anouncement soon but as of now, no word.
P.S. To Farragut Housing: Quit the BS. There is no reason why some of these tennents have to hate their new nieghbors. Try to be nice for a change.
