Streetlevel: Teddy's Comes to Washington Avenue

We don't know anything more than this photo shows but evidently there's a new restaurant opening on Washington Avenue off Lincon Place in Prospect Heights called Teddy's. Anyone know what kind of food it's going to be? GMAP

Greek food. As in Greek Food, not as in diner.

I'm really excited about this place and have talked with Teddy several times as he's been renovating the space (which used to be a Chinese Takeout place with bullet proof glass). It's going to be a Greek Restuarant. He's had a couple of restuarants in Manhattan and is a really friendly guy. He put down a stone patio in back for outdoor dining and it should be opening in a week or two. I like the nice simple awning, much better than Hussey's Tailoring across the street. With the Montessori School, the Heart of Brooklyn, and now Teddy's, this little stretch is becoming nicer. Now if the storefront to the right of Teddy's could get their act together and finally open the cafe or bar or whatever it is they've been trying to open for the last year, that would be even better. And next to that, half of the Super 8 barbershop is already laid out as a cafe, just waiting to open--maybe they could open an icecream shop or bakery. And while I'm on a roll, perhaps Love Liquor's could get a more attractive sign or awning and peel off their ugly discount signs. And Key Foods could replace their big Blue Awning (even though it looks nicer than it did before) with a simple wood sign, restoring the white architectural details that line the building, in addition to letting the classic green Ludwig pharmacy sign be seen once more.
There. My wish list is complete.

the store next to Teddy's is allegedly going to be a coffee shop/cafe sort of deal. light food, internet access, etc. I've heard that one of the guys who works in Ludwigs is involved in it.
This block(s) is turning around, but I think it could support so much more. Greek food is a good start, but I think a decent mexican place would also do well here. or even more upscale chinese.

I would love it if a Mexican Restaurant moved into the space on the corner of St. John's and Washington.
I spoke with the guys who are trying to open the place next to Teddy's a while back. At that time, they said they were going to call it the Brooklyn Muse Cafe. I hope they can pull it off. They had a construction push last fall, but nothing's happened since. I spoke with the owner of the building, who also owns the building Teddy's is in, and she says those guys haven't paid their rent in months. I felt bad for her and hope things can happen soon-for her sake, theirs, and ours.

what space on St. Johns and Washington? The building that Ali's laundry is in? I believe that whole building is actually condemed.
the other problem with that corner is the bodega on the other side of the street, which I believe is the areas' last flourishing weed (I hope) spot. that's going to have to get cleaned up for that stretch to thrive...

There's already a Mexican place on Classon, near Park Place, called Chavella's. Tasty!

I'm thinking of the place with the blue metal awnings. It looks like a big space.
I haven't been to to Chavella's yet. I'll have to check it out.

Chavella's is super tasty
I'm excited there will be greek food nearby
There are a couple of store fronts on Classon that have a little space in the front...it would be a great place for a cafe too.

teddy's could be good, but i still miss kam hong (the chinese place that used to be there). sweet folks, great kung pao. it'll take some good souvlaki and tangy skordalia to win me over.
btw, went to deacon blue on grand and prospect today for brunch -- 10 bucks, three eggs and bacon, etc. -- really really slow service but nice red walls and great rosemary potatoes.

I know this thread is abandoned, but just in case anyone checks, I want to fully endorse Teddy's. We ate there last night in the garden out back. So many people from the neighborhood were stopping by. Everyone's rooting for it.
Our meal was delicious with friendly service. We'll be back!
