Fake Out: No Organic Market for Lexington Avenue

IMG_1430.jpgClinton Hillsters got quite a head-fake last week courtesy of the art department on the Steve Martin vehicle Babymama that's been filming in the area for the past couple of weeks. We got an excited email from one resident of Lexington Avenue between Grand and Classon who was tripping over himself with excitement having woken up one morning to find that the heretofore neglected New England Biscuit Factory at 38 Lexington had turned into an organic market. Unfortunately, we had to break the news to him that he was going to have to get his mache elsewhere. GMAP P*Shark

Maybe the production company would be willing to donate the purty signage, just leave it there, and some enterprising crunchola types from, say, the Slope, could move the cruelty-free turnips right on in!

Was it really called the "New England Biscuit Factory" prior to the filming. I've walked by there 100's of times and never noticed the signage until they began. The top portion of the building was all added for the set and not "real". Looked at photos propertshark.com and I don't see any lettering either.

Dumb ASS, Now Why would they put a food market on that rat infested, abandoned building block? No one would see it since you only drive that that part of lexington to change directions because you got lost. That block needs more (dare i say it) condos! or affordable living

Residents of E. NY started up a food coop. Why don't you start one up in Clinton Hill. You know it would be successful. But a lot of work of course. But the payoff would be huge in so many ways. I live elsewhere or I'd start the whole thing off.

someone should open one!! it does not need to be a co-op, just a clean, well stocked grocery with good organic options. it is still THE thing that's missing in westbed/clinton hill/fg-please someone, hear our cries!!! i am one of the (very) disappointed people who thought that this was happening...

Bed Stuy would be THE perfect oasis of tranquility if only there were an organic market. Oh I crave it so badly. It is the only thing left to make my hood 100%.

Why do people expect quality establishments like health food stores in the ghetto?

Your comments are extremely offensive. Me and my group have spent upwards of $1m to live in a beautiful neighborhood that has the most devastatingly attractive homes in the country. Is it too much for us to expect an organic grocery? It comes with the neighborhood, which we've spent enormous sums to improve. Maybe you should move into your own ghetto mind.

I reside two block from location, and yes theses comments are profoundy offensive. My community comprise of hard working individuals that take pride in their community. From low-income to professional individual, this community is in need of high quality organic supermarket. I'm cognizant that their is an existing establishment located in P.S. 56, I believe that they offer a limited amount of seasonal organic food. All communities have the right to receive high quality organic food to enrich their lives.
