Photo Contest: Brooklyn's Most Dangerous Worksites

In the wake of this week's posts about the developer who tried to bribe a DOB inspector, the ongoing disaster at the Kent Avenue synagogue and the mess brewing in Sunset Park, we've decided to try a little experiment. We're going to offer a $250 prize to the reader who can send in the photo of the borough's most dangerous worksite. Here's how it works: Send us a photo (no bigger than 600 pixels wide please) with the address and a brief description of the danger and negligence you've captured on film. Please email submissions to brownstoner@brownstoner.com with PHOTO CONTEST in the header; also let us know if you want to remain anonymous. There's a limit of three photos per person. Deadline for submission is Wednesday at noon, so start snapping. We'll pick the three best entries and let readers vote on the winner.

ooooooh... an excellent idea-- just the thing to get competitive juices flowing.

Q1: i assume the photos should be taken between now & Wednesday? or is there a recent-ish allowable window as well?

Q2: given that most people traverse the same, more popular Brownstoner 'hoods, is there any plan for a tiebreaker if more than one person gets THEE winning shot in, say, WB or GP or Sunset Park (not "Green-wood Heights")?

thanks,

1) Should be current, but if you happened to have taken one yesterday that's probably okay.

2) dunno

wwib,

Since MOST of the best shots have come from GREENWOOD HTS as of late, I'd use the proper name of the 'nabe in your submission...on your way to SSP or way back to South Slope.

AJ-- while my heart goes out to those in the imaginary, or least recently concocted residential area of "G-H," as far as the competition goes, ya'll keep taking pix of the same locations... over & over & over & over.

i'm not saying these malfeasances don't deserve to be documented-- quite the opposite; it's heartening to see people on the case when gov't fails us-- just pointing out what you yourself say:

MOST of the best shots are coming from a certain area. well, okay, what other parts of BK have you ** been **?

live from East Flatbush,

wwib

p/s: good luck to all contestants.

I have to say, Mr. B., the photos you ran of the house next door to your own after a huge chunk of brownstone window frame/lintel crashed to the sidewalk were among the most harrowing I've ever seen here. I'm not sure that house qualifies as a "worksite," from the way you described its neglect, but I'm curious as to whether the owner has done anything to resolve the problem. Update?

The guy slapped some stucco up and that was enough to satisfy the DOB inspector. Here's what he wrote:

PIECE OF MISSING MASONRY MOLDING AT FRONT FACADE WINDOW,WAS REPLACE WITH STUCCO,ALL FACADES APPEAR OKAY ON DEFECTS FOUND.

Still looks sketchy to us
