The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce has just announced the winners of its annual Building Brooklyn Awards. The Chamber's Real Estate & Development Committee selects projects from the last year that distinguished themselves in twelve categories of design; in addition, three awards are given for economic impact. We've listed all the winners on the jump and will be taking a closer look at each one over the next days and weeks. In the Affordable Housing category, the Imperial Apartments (top) won accolades. The South Slope Condominiums at 270 21st Street (middle left) won in the Residential: 1-5 Dwellings category and the L3 Condominiums (middle right) got top honors in the Residential: Multi-Family slot. Another cool-looking winner was the Redhook Stores project (bottom) in the Design and Economic Impact category. We'll get into more detail about each of these at a later date; the other winners are listed with photos on the jump. The 2007 Building Brooklyn Awards (BBA) ceremony and cocktail reception will be held at Stage 6 at Steiner Studios at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Wednesday, July 18. Update: We've added complete info on architects, developers, etc. on the jump.

are the architects listed anywhere? it seems like they should be credited somewhere. (especially for the design awards.)

where is the location of the building at the top? i'd love to take a stroll by it one day.

reminds me of the dakota on the upper west side.

The Imperial Apartments are on the corner of Bedford Ave. and Pacific St. in Crown Heights North. It was designed by Montrose Morris in 1892. Morris was one of the best and busiest architects of his day, and much of his best work is in Bed Stuy and Crown Heights. At one time, this building was said to have had some of largest and most suitably appointed luxury apartment suites in Bklyn, and indeed, rivaled the Dakota in Manhattan.

This building lay empty and almost wrecked for a long time. The firm that did the renovation put a lot of care and money into restoring the facade, using copper trim and flashing to replicate the original trim. I haven't been inside, but I hope they took the same care inside. The apts have been totally refigured, of course, and the originals were subdivided and stripped a long time ago. Many kudos for not being cheap and cutting corners for an affordable housing project.

i think you have the same pic for the bklyn law building and the ps/is building -- are they in the same building?

We need more architects such as this;
Sarano didn't get an "honorable" mention,
what a surprise his trash buildings didn't get the booby.

im surprised no one is mentioning Forest City Ratner winning for the courthouse....

The imperial apts are nice, but who wants to live next door to one of the largest homeless shelters in the boro? Not me,even if I could have afforded them, I would not live there.

the photo for feil hall is in the wrong place (it's the tower by stern) and there's no photo of kcc's academic village (duplicate of one lower down)

Btw, "Redhook Stores" is the Fairway building. The pix is the interior atrium
