Development Watch: 75 Flatbush Extension

85FlatexMontage.jpg
Here's what we know for sure about this large triangular wedge of property bounded by Flatbush Avenue Extension, Tillary and Duffield Streets: Issac Hager's North Development Group has razed the combination of signage and one-story commercial buildings that used to be here and plans to build a large residential building. How big? A year ago, The Real Deal reported that a 400-foot tower lay in store; more recently, in March, The New York Sun said that the building would be 21 stories with 108 units. Unless each story is close to 20 feet high, these two reports aren't entirely consistent. Unfortunately, there's nothing on file with DOB about the building, only demo permits. Anyone know the deal? Update: Some did know the deal and provided a link to the rendering on the Ismael Leyva site, so we've updated the photos above. It looks like the 21-story description was spot on.

I love this building, so Flash Gordon,
so un-vanilla.
We are catching up to the rest of the world suddenly. Brooklyn has very little modern architecure with any pizzazz. The new entry to the Brooklyn Museum is great, and some of the designs for the new highrises on Flatbush and Grand Army Plaza look cool. I can't wait to see the boro finally, finally, break free of the heavy dead hand of the nineteenth century.

Then why don't you move somewhere else where space age is more appreciated. This stuff will look so dated in a few years.

I think its a poor render of a glass building- looks more like anodized aluminum.
A stack of curved balconies is a decent way to deal with the tight corner space.

Aaaargh!

I'm sorry, that's my only reaction.
