Development Watch: 118-122 Vanderbilt

The construction action is heating up over at the Bricolage site on Vanderbilt between Myrtle and Park, with the foundation for the seven-story, 15-unit building now in place. Here's what one commenter had to say about the early stages of the project when we posted about it two months ago:

The contractors have been up to all sorts of shady stuff: tossing building materials off the roof into the adjacent staging area (no tube), also that lot has collected an amazing pile of trash-pallets, lumber, insulation, sand, etc., finally in that lot on a cold day, the builders started a campfire out of the trash, in the trash-filled lot.

Have these cleaned up their act or is it business as usual?

These neighbors will have fun. When the Bricolage building went up on my block, I came home one day to find a worker set up on my stoop welding away - sparks flying everywhere. Not only did he not care about the obvious hazards and violations, he finished his job before he got out of the way and let me into my own home!

Look forward to lots of weekend work (Saturdays and Sundays) and garbage left all over the block, all with the end result of a big, ugly building that no one you know can afford to live in.

Been hearing a lot more truck than usual driving/downshifting through the nabe. I wake up about 4-5 times during the night. Two nights ago, one truck honked it's horn a couple of times (around 4am) and it literally sounded like a foghorn from a cruise ship (no kidding).

it's currently a sad moment for this area of the neighborhood. oversized buildings are going up everywhere with abandon. and these developers are nearly unstoppable.

Keep calling the dept. of buildings
and epa.They churn slowly.Emergency DOB
comes in a blink if there is a real danger and you can convince the 311 its an
emergency. Don't use it unless it is an emergency as the squad is stretched thin.

as author of the comment quoted in this post, I wanted to clarify that it was about the project at vanderbilt and gates. btw, the lot caught fire, again. right next to the neighboring fence with bags of trash catching flame. once again I called the fire dept, who need a hose, not a fire extinguisher to put it out this time.
