20 Henry Street: Interior Demo Proceeding Apace

With the rent-control tenants gone and Landmarks approval finally in hand, the Praedium Group ~~has begun priming the former candy factory at 20 Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights for condo conversion~~. (The group also has plans to plunk down a four-story building on the adjacent garden on Poplar street next door.) The markings on the walls sent us on a sentimental trip down memory lane. Remember this? Update: Whoops. Word is that Praedium is trying to unload this building rather than develop it themselves; these wall markings are a few months old.

love the conversion for the factory hate the idea of a building going up on the corner...we have managed to take away every piece of green brooklyn could possibly offer..soon parts of prospect park will also be lost to a bigger rink...i think i'm moving up and out.

All this demo prep work was done months ago. The only action here has been "demo by neglect" (read vandalism) and the active marketing of the property to potential buyers. I don't believe Praedium currently has any plans to initiate construction.

Um a little hyperbole on complaint about icerink perhaps? Plan is to replace existing rink with better facilities. Not as though they are putting a bowling alley in the Long Meadow. As someone who has used the rink with my son, I am looking forward to better facilities. And no I don;t work for Ratner (hee, hee, sorry that is a tagline for another posting).

This demo work is indeed months old. Praedium will walk away for a cool 22.5 mil. This is not new news.

It's all happening... and we're losing something much more significant than you'd think. That garden is home to some of the most beautiful trees in the area, a "mini" theater area and an eclectic assortment of garden features designed with the artist in mind. I suggest someone put up a fight.
The new building will destroy the context of not only the factory, but the surrounding area.
This matter should not be taken lightly.
