Farm-Fresh Produce Coming to Carroll Gardens

Great news for all the Carroll Gardens residents who've been schlepping all the way up Court Street to the Cobble Hill CSA for their weekly vegetable fix Carroll Gardens is getting a CSA of its own this year, conveniently located at the Transit Garden on the corner of Smith Street and Second Place. For those who aren't already involved being a member of a CSA means that you buy a "share" of a farm's produce which helps cover the anticipated costs of the farm operation and pays the farmer a living wage. In turn, members receive shares in the farm's crops throughout the growing season...
The Carroll Gardens CSA is offering fruit, vegetable, flower, eggs, and combination shares from the Garden of Eve farm in Riverhead, Long Island. They offer a number of options that allow you to pick and choose which items you want and you can even get a "half-share," available for pick-up every other week. Pick-ups are on Saturdays from 10am to noon which is especially exciting for those of us who work late during the week and look forward to cooking big meals on the weekends.
The Garden of Eden farm also does CSAs in Willamsburg, Brooklyn Heights and the Kensington Gardens/Prospect Heights/Midwood Area. Are members of those CSAs happy with their weekly harvests?
More details are available on the Garden of Eden website, but the email address listed there appears to be incorrect. For additional info, contact carrollgardenscsa [at] gmail.com.

Off-topic, I know, but how do photographers get their colors to 'pop' like that!?

Drugs, usually.
Other tweaking aside, tweaking the lighting and Photoshop levels also help.

I have a feeling we're the "Kensington Gardens/Prospect Heights/Midwood Area" referenced -- and really it will be a Kensington/Windsor Terrace location. We're just getting set up with Garden of Eden but will hope to have the CSA set up in time for this season. We'll send a note to the Record when more details are available.

The Cobblehill csa only allows vegetables to be picked up on a weekday during the afternoon-early evening. This prevents people who actually work and work out of the neighborhood to participate. the csa organizers should consider having the pick up on a saturday or sunday morning. The CSA Williamsburg does that and it permits the CSA to be more diverse & inclusive.

The boyfriend and I joined the CSA last year - it was a lot of food for just the two of us but we were really happy with the quality and variety, and the Garden of Eden people are really nice.

Isn't there supposed to be a Greenmarket coming to carroll gardens?

This will be the first year for the SweetPea CSA in Brooklyn Heights which will have pick ups on Wednesdays from 4-7 at First Unitarian Congregational Society in Brooklyn on Pierrepont between Clinton and Monroe. The wonderful organic farm, Garden of Eve
will supply us with their delicious veggies, fruit, flowers and fresh eggs. Vist their website www.gardenofevefarm or email us at sweetpeacsa@gmail.com to get more info. We are working to have low-income shares available and to also offer food stamps as a payment option.
