Limestone?!? Permastone over a wood frame is more like it!

I think if there were a prize for neighborhood with the greatest number of ugly 1-4 family buildings, Williamsburg would win easily.

Posted by: crouchback at February 26, 2007 11:19 AM

As a Williamsburg resident, I nominate Greenpoint.

Posted by: Halden at February 26, 2007 11:41 AM

theres no landmark district in williamsburg.

Greenpoint resident.

williamsburg is soooooooooooo fugly it literally makes me vomit--just a tad--in my mouth.

How could they dare ask so much for a house that isn't even prime Williamsburg, but essentially Bushwick.

Although Bushwick still has a lousy name for itself, there are some better looks homes here than in Williamsburg.

If the graffiti problem wasn't so bad in Bushwick more people would stucco, or brick face their wood frame homes.

If Williamsburg is so ugly, why do people want to move there?

Posted by: supergirl at February 26, 2007 2:53 PM

As a Greenpoint resident and owner, I nominate Williamsburg.

Besides, it's the truth.

Posted by: Anonymous at February 26, 2007 3:04 PM

supergirl - People have never moved there for the architecture!

Posted by: Anonymous at February 26, 2007 3:07 PM

i'm so sick of the word 'prime' in these threads. like prime beef or something. what makes something 'prime' anyway?

Posted by: anon. at February 26, 2007 6:41 PM

"Prime" means it's actually in the neighborhood that's named, not merely on the outskirts or somewhat sort of close to it.

Posted by: Anonymous at February 26, 2007 7:18 PM

In this case prime is relevant. Already the powers that be have successful renamed a portion of Bushwick East Williamsburg. Now further, it's not even Williamsburg. What's the area south of Williamsburg going to be called South East Williamsburg (or SEW).

Posted by: Anonymous at February 26, 2007 9:33 PM

that property does in fact fall into nyc boundaries of Williamsburg.

Posted by: Anonymous at February 26, 2007 10:23 PM

It's funny how everyone is an expert on this site... while it's clear none of you really know Williamsburg pre 2000.

I grew up about 10 blocks away from here, further east. Since I was a boy, that's always been considered Williamsburg, not Bushwick, not East Williamsburg.

10:23 is right - Manhattan Avenue is in Williamsburg.

What do people think is the correct Bushwick boundary? Historically (like 150 years ago, when they were separate towns), the Williamsburg boundary was Broadway to the south and Bushwick Avenue to the east. Is that what it has been in the past 25 to 50 years? And what is it now?

Posted by: Halden at February 27, 2007 8:38 AM

Sorry - missed Brooklyn Zoo's post. He's right too, of course. He's also right that "East Williamsburg" as a named place did not exist until about 8 years ago.

Posted by: Halden at February 27, 2007 8:43 AM

People think Williamsburg is Bedford and Lorimer. Ridiculous.

Posted by: Brooklyn Zoo at February 27, 2007 10:12 AM

Ok i declare a Greenpoint and Williamsburg the winners.

Posted by: Gobner Pacrappy at February 27, 2007 1:50 PM

can't any defenders of stone/brickfacing and aluminum siding post on this site? I desperately want to know what they think.

Posted by: pfa at February 27, 2007 2:47 PM

This is really the "Italian Section" of Williamsburg, called that for at least 40 or 60 years, which the Times won't use for a heading. Like it or not, it's is the Eastern part of Williamsburg. Don't judge these buildings by the outside, you never know what's on the inside. They're all over 100 years old.
