Dominick Diomede, 94, Finds a New Pad

6dom.jpgGood news! Two days before 94-year-old Dominick Diomede was going to get kicked out of his home, the Fifth Avenue Committee found him a new place. For 20 years, he has been renting an apartment on Woodhull Street for $500 per month, but the current owners decided to raise his rent, pushing the apartment out of Dom's price range. According to The Brooklyn Paper:

"Diomede’s social worker applied for the Fifth Avenue Committee’s emergency housing program and, after a push from Councilman Bill DeBlasio, Diomede got the studio unit — at $40 a month less than he was paying in his old place."

“It’s beautiful,” Dom told the local publication as he toured 551 Warren St. last week. “It’s pretty good for an old man.” He is planning to move within the next month, with free assistance from Movers, Not Shakers — a community-minded Red Hook moving company.

Just a note on Movers, Not Shakers - I used them three years ago for my move from Hell's Kitchen to Clinton Hill and they were fantastic!

Yeah, we have friends who've used them, too. They're awesome.

Who would run a 94 year old out of his home? Seriously- how long could they loose the extra cash?
