Boerum Hill apt link links to ad for the PLG apt

All I want is a decent apartment for a single person in a nice neighborhood with a few bars and restaurants for $1500 or less. Why is this so hard to find?

Yeah, I'm going to pay $2,300 for an apartment in Bed-Stuy, in the heart of the ghetto.

Posted by: AllIwant at February 9, 2007 11:09 AM

That $ 2,275 apt is a good deal . I get $2,550 for the same apt ,just a few blocks away

Posted by: eletricgreek at February 9, 2007 11:17 AM

Hey alliwant, the $2300 is for a 3BR triplex. You want that for $1500. Even in Bed Stuy, what decade do you live in? Yeah, I want a brownstone in Cobble Hill for 100K but its not 1978.

By the way, Im not a LL; just realistic.

Posted by: Peter in CG at February 9, 2007 11:21 AM

Yeah, greek, I call bullshit. I get $2,500 for a floorthrough 3-bedroom in Park Slope. 1,200 square feet. This is not uncommon.

I'm sorry, I don't really care what a "triplex" is. Bed Stuy sucks, and no one making six figures is going to want to live there, and people who want to live with roommates can afford much better neighborhoods with only a slight increase in their monthly rent.

Why pay $2,500 in Bed Stuy when $3,500 will get you an awesome 3-bedroom in Williamsburg? Most single types who get roommmates will gladly spend an extra $250 a month to you know, not get SHOT!

Posted by: Alliwant at February 9, 2007 11:24 AM

First of all why are you so angry ?

You sound more like someone who is bitter about getting priced out of a neighborhood ,rather than a homeowner in park slope .

Posted by: eletricgreek at February 9, 2007 11:30 AM

BTW i get $2,550 not $2,500 ..Don't short change me

Posted by: eletricgreek at February 9, 2007 11:37 AM

AllIwant,
A decent apartment and a duplex or triplex are two different things. And if you cant stand bed-stuy, stay your ass out of bed-stuy. Where your anger is coming from is beyond me, but maybe the reason you can't find a $1,500 apartment is the landlords with those apartments just don't want YOU!
I happen to rent a GREAT $1,500 apartment to a single woman who LOVES THE PLACE. I doubt very seriously, I'd trade my tenant for the likes of YOU!. and it's in Bed-Stuy. Stuy Heights to be exact!

Posted by: Anonymous at February 9, 2007 11:46 AM

AllIwant,

Um, someone making 6 figures shouldn't be looking to rent an apartment in Bed-Stuy in the first place. Maybe they should be BUYING A BROWNSTONE in Bed-Stuy. Get a Clue!

Posted by: ALLUNEED at February 9, 2007 11:50 AM

Some people must see "Bed-Stuy" and just start salivating. It honestly doesn't matter what the topic, they have to poison the discussion with irrelevant and uneducated comments. Anyway, say it as many times as you want - really, just keep saying it over and over, or louder and louder, whatever makes you feel good - but many, many, many people making six figures are living quite happily in B-S.

Posted by: Anonymous at February 9, 2007 12:01 PM

"millions of restaurants a bike ride away in Park Slope"

Is that an apology for not being in Park Slope?
Show some pride.

Posted by: Anonymous at February 9, 2007 1:11 PM

Six figure income - check
Landlord - check
Live in Bed-Stuy -check
Thanking God daily that AllIWant isn't living upstairs - check.

With that said, the triplex is a little deceiving. It should be a duplex with storage and backyard access.

Nice new feature!

Brownstoner,

Love the craiglist rental listings - nice addition!

Hate the people who post irrelevant crap on these posts.

Posted by: Anonymous at February 9, 2007 1:21 PM

I like the addition of rentals. It adds another layer to the discussion of what's happening in these nabes.

As for the Bed-Stuy hater, face down your fear! Even if you who you are somehow has less value in a world where homes in the hood cost a nearly a million dollars and MANY, MANY, MANY of its old and new residents have six figure incomes, you'll still be you.

Take heart. That must be worth...something.

Posted by: Anonymous at February 9, 2007 1:38 PM

Make that:

Thanking God daily that AllIWant isn't living upstairs - priceless

Posted by: Anonymous at February 9, 2007 1:42 PM

Mr. B --

While I like the idea of rentals in theory, it does make it a lot harder for people trying to find that great no-broker deal...presumably these people are already looking for them, and putting them up on here makes things harder. (I don't think the same thing is true about open houses, b/c they are advertised everywhere.)

I think posting rentals that agencies have is fine, but these no-fee places should be for people willing to do the legwork, IMHO.

Posted by: Anon at February 9, 2007 1:58 PM

Um to the posted worried about posting rental listings online making "things harder" these places are all on craigslist, which is not exactly an industry secret.

I was super interested in the bed-Stuy listing, but it looks to be very far from a subway. Oh well.

Posted by: Anonymous at February 9, 2007 2:43 PM

1:58PM, writtn by a TRUE BROKER!

How pathetic! Don't like the NO FEE competition, then lower your freak'n FEES!! >;-(

Posted by: Anonymous at February 9, 2007 2:46 PM

Rental listings are cool! Like 'em.

Posted by: lesterhead at February 9, 2007 3:10 PM

LOVE the rental listings!!

Posted by: large marge at February 9, 2007 3:21 PM

I liked the addition of the rentals until I read 1:58's comments (who thought you should only advertise agent listings), and now I LOVE the addition. If anything, I would say don't give any free advertising away to agents.

Posted by: Anonymous at February 9, 2007 3:50 PM

1:58 is a complete broker.

And the $1500 apartment for a single person exists - just not a 3 bedroom. I have a $1500 on Columbia Street, and it's reno'd and stabilized too. I think $2500 is market rate for that area actually. The rentals I think are crazy are the ones that are $3000+ for a 1 bedroom on Montague Street. Bleh.

Nice feature!

Posted by: cobblestoner at February 9, 2007 4:46 PM

yeah, I like. I own a small one bedroom (which I sublet) and live in a two bedroom rental. so this is perfect for someone like me---it get to see what the rental market is for my place, plus any place I might want to rent myself...

Posted by: Anonymous at February 9, 2007 5:28 PM

KENSINGTON (I got lucky with a rent-stabilized) people I pay a little over 1K for a sunny spacious l bedroom apartment with an eat in kitchen...Ocean Parkway

Posted by: Anonymous at February 10, 2007 11:58 AM

This is a great new feature, apt listings. However for those looking for affordable apts they shouldn't be looking in any brownstone Brooklyn nabes. There are great prewar apartments with elevators and laundry, in Bay Ridge for under $1500. Bay Ridge is a looonnngggg ride out on the R (there's an express bus also) and the R practically stops running when it's late at night it's such a slow and scarce train, but the restaurants are good and it's safe and clean. Nice park for running along the river. More young hipsters moving there. I used to rent there before I married, and liked it. Nobody should be bitter if they can't yet afford certain areas. There are perfectly fine nabes that are affordable.

Posted by: Anonymous at February 10, 2007 6:11 PM

i Like the addition as well.
this is a little off-topic but
can someone provide a description of what a
ghetto is in 2007?

Posted by: I am not Star Jones at February 10, 2007 7:36 PM

Ok, Peter in CG...Williamsburg IS the ghetto. Let's not get confused here because of who lives in the neighborhood.

There are plenty of people making six figures (as if that matters) living in Bed-Stuy. I'm not quite sure why you're hating on Bed-Stuy so much. Could it be that Bed-Stuy brownstones are actually more beautiful...and larger than the ones located in your neighborhood Peter? LOL!

Posted by: Butta at February 10, 2007 9:46 PM

I'm sorry not Peter...i meant ALLIWANT!

Sorry Peter...your comments made sense to me...I was pissed at the poster before you and saw your name!

Posted by: Butta at February 10, 2007 9:52 PM

well ...ALLIWANT!

The triplex in BED STUY just got rented . The owner called ( FRIEND OF MINE ) me an hour ago and told me two girls took the apt . So much for who would wana live there huh ...

Posted by: eletricgreek at February 11, 2007 5:15 PM

Thanks for the rental info, Mr. B. Very helpful.

Posted by: donatella at February 11, 2007 5:30 PM
