Where It's At?

IMG_1065mystery.gif
Although it looks it belongs in some Medieval village, this brick and timber house is in fact here in the County of Kings. Can anyone guess its location? Full photo of the house and location provided tomorrow.

I bet Ditmas Park OR Marine Park

Posted by: JG at January 22, 2007 10:53 AM

I've seen similar building types in Sunnyside, Queens

Posted by: Anonymous at January 22, 2007 10:59 AM

It has the look of an "ex"- barn/carriage house. Note the open slot above the windows where a davit could come out for hoisting hay into the hayloft (windows).

That said, it's probably somewhere in Clinton Hill/Ft. Greene/Vinegar Hill area. (Older Brooklyn near East River)

That's my guess.

Could be anywhere. I don't think Ditmas Park/Victorian Flatbush, though... Marine Park is a good suggestion. There's a lot of Tudor going on down there.

Although it does suggest a former barn, in which case I wouldn't know where to start...

Waverly Avenue, just above/north of Lafayette

Posted by: local at January 22, 2007 11:08 AM

greenpoint, there's a crazy medevil looking row house near McCarren Park

Posted by: Anonymous at January 22, 2007 11:13 AM

Is there a picture of the entire facade? I'd like to see this in context.

the brooklyn historical society used to do something like this in their monthly newsletter and it was a lot of fun (although easier than this one -- often a wider shot for more points of reference)

Posted by: Anonymous at January 22, 2007 11:15 AM

One of you is on the right track...

Posted by: brownstoner at January 22, 2007 11:19 AM

I'd say that this is in Downstown Brooklyn, off Flatbush. I can't remember the name of the street, but it is on the b41 bus line.

Posted by: dt at January 22, 2007 11:21 AM

downtown brooklyn. not sure which street.

Posted by: 9000 at January 22, 2007 11:23 AM

Greenpoint, either on Lorimer, Guernsey or Leonard streets

Posted by: Anonymous at January 22, 2007 11:33 AM

Greenpoint - either Leonard or Lorimer - similar houses on both streets

Posted by: Anonymous at January 22, 2007 11:34 AM

greenpoint - nassau avenue.

maybe.

Posted by: suzy at January 22, 2007 11:38 AM

When will you put us out of our misery, Brownstoner... Hint, please?

Posted by: Erin Joslyn at January 22, 2007 11:44 AM

I vote Waverly Avenue.

Posted by: crouchback at January 22, 2007 12:00 PM

Park Slope.

Posted by: Anonymous at January 22, 2007 12:06 PM

Hanover, New hampshire?

Posted by: AnonymousNegro at January 22, 2007 12:30 PM

Union street between 7th/8th.

Posted by: Anonymous at January 22, 2007 12:39 PM

Prospect Park South-West?

Posted by: Bob Marvin at January 22, 2007 12:44 PM

I agree with dt above, off Flatbush. I thought it was on one of the little streets toward the subway cut somewhere between Parkside and Lincoln(?), a little closer to the latter. But there are Tudor-style places all over, actually.

Posted by: David in NY at January 22, 2007 12:52 PM

Hint: The correct street has been mentioned, but it's a pretty long street.

Posted by: brownstoner at January 22, 2007 12:53 PM

Union Street at Clinton

Posted by: Pascal at January 22, 2007 1:24 PM

not Union at Clinton, that's my house you're thinking of

Posted by: j at January 22, 2007 1:28 PM

aw, shucks! thot i had it. well anyway, that's a nice place! i've admired it many a time.

Posted by: Pascal at January 22, 2007 1:33 PM

Hint: A lot of Polish people live nearby.

Posted by: brownstoner at January 22, 2007 2:05 PM

for shame, i'm going to revise my answer. leonard avenue between nassau and norman.

Posted by: 9000 at January 22, 2007 2:40 PM

Greenpoint, then?

Are you going to post a long shot of the place when you finally do give us the answer. This is cruel, Brownstoner! Some of us have to go to work!

Posted by: Erin Joslyn at January 22, 2007 3:00 PM

I'm thinking S between Nostrand and Gerritesen in Marine Park/Sheepshead Bay.

Posted by: Nicolo Machiavelli at January 22, 2007 3:04 PM

Brownstoner, you gave it away with "A lot of Polish people live nearby." Definitely Greenpoint.

Therefore, either Leonard (between Nassua and Norman) or Lorimer (between Meserole and Norman).

Posted by: Anonymous at January 22, 2007 4:08 PM

is this the place with the spa on the ground floor on ... lorimer? i think?

Posted by: Anonymous at January 22, 2007 5:40 PM

I think it's near Coffey Park in Red Hook?

Posted by: Siobhan at January 22, 2007 9:41 PM

Warsaw? Zslobinosky street? Corner of Hrotselek?

Posted by: west at January 22, 2007 10:15 PM

So, it's not Hanover, New Hampshire?

Posted by: AnonymousNegro at January 22, 2007 10:25 PM

In 1876, a young girl named Jenn was walking down a river, an insane man killed her by stabbing her in the back, raping her, and then hanging her in his closet. While he hanged her he said Bukakke Bukkake.
Now that you have read this message, she will find you and her dead body will haunt your house for 5 years. Every night you go to sleep she will appear in your closet, hanging their with her glowing red eyes.
