Over of a Blood Red Floor

As long as we're on the subject of kitchen renos, we thought we'd draw your attention to this bold move by regular commenter Jimmy Legs. According to his description on Flickr, Jimmy and his significant other bought a "poorly-painted, asbestos-ridden house" in Bushwick and have been renovating it themselves. While it might not be the most traditional fare, we're digging the red painted floor. How 'bout you?

Yeah, I love it. Did you paint over old wood floors or did you install new flooring first? The floor is begging for stainless steel appliances.

how did they get rid of the asbestos? by themselves, or an abatement contractor?

I saw that in a house I was looking at on-line - red floor in a mostly white kitchen (white cabinets), accented with warm honey wood (and a butcher block counter) and some black accents. I wasn't sure at first, but I started to really dig it. It's different and looked really nice in the right context.

yikes, running low on content? :) thanks guys, this stuff is pretty low-level: it's just the plywood subfloor. in retrospect we should have taken greater pains to prepare the floor, but this is just to tide us over until we can afford to put slate or something more permanent in.
re: asbestos, we had Liam Hogan's crack team get rid of the offending material. see the forum for more reco's for him.

I think it looks great and underscores the fact that you can do something striking and creative without going high-end.

No offense-Hate it.

I love it. It would make a person excited to do the laundry! Which is a good thing (staring at my pile of neglected laundry).

it looks like the surgeon's room's floor on the old Royal Navy wooden ships. When the floor was all red you couldn't see all the extra blood spilled on it.

its a red floor encircled by sporadic white appliances and someextraneous wires. to have an opinion on this picture one way or another seems forced.

Well, if you get a soar throat, just bend over and lick the floor. That's definitely Robutusin, not paint.
