On a related note, there's a rally today at City Hall at 1 pm to encourage the Public Authorities Control Board to delay its vote until Spitzer is in office and there has been greater scrutiny of the financing of AY.

I've been against the size and scale of Atlantic Yards, opposed the West Side Jets stadium, but liked the Farley Post Office Penn Station plan.
But how have we maneuvered ourselves into a situation where one guy, Shelley Silver, says yes or no to all these plans?

If you read the article it explains that he along with the other two people who get to vote for or against this project are supposed to insure the financial integrity of the state coffers. At the bottom of the article it says that Silver's office has asked the developer (Ratner) for financial documentation to ensure that the project is good for all New Yorkers and that he hasn't yet provided anything more than what is available on the web, which is hardly enough to base a major decision on because it just hides the information that is necessary for a true public review. So hopefully that will stall the decision because it's insane for NY State taxpayers to write a blank check to a developer who may or may not have his act together (probably not judging from his lack of disclosure.)

Also the Times neglected to mention that the amount projected to be received by the city has been reduced by half a billion dollars in the latest documents.

the 'three men in a room' represents the dysfunctional nature of NY politics, agreed, however, the AY project - which is basically one of the biggest land grab/ tax payer swindles in New York history is even more so.
Nearly every local representative and community board has asked Silver to delay the vote - the only reason Pataki is trying to railroad it through is because it can't stand up to scrutiny.

Sheldon Silver should vote nay, or at least recommend to delay the approval of the project, if he has true ethics and follows the guidelines of the fiduciary duty that he OWES to the taxpayers of The State of New York.
If he votes to approve AY, this will go down as perhaps the biggest high-profile white collar crime ever pulled off against the taxpaying public. Just think! It will be like Ratner putting his hands down your pants in front of cops and judges that are powerless to stop him, pulling out your cash, laughing at you and then laughing with his team of mofos at the stupidity of the proletariat and their electeds as they count their cash and laugh about the sixteen turds about to be plunked down in our neighborhood.
The only reason to be scared is cause Mr. Silver has already stopped two very high-profile projects. Can't blame the guy for not wanting to end up wearing cement shoes...
but Come on Shelly! You'll be a hero if you vote to save our dough!
