Atlantic Yards Vote Delayed 'Til Next Year

NY1 is reporting that Sheldon Silver will not give his vote on Atlantic Yards until next year because he still has "financial questions" about the project. Yowza.

2006 or 2007, it's still a done deal.

Thanks for you comment Bruce. But seriously this is one of the first sane acts associated with this train wreck of a project. Honestly folks, it may be possible to do his project in an honest, transparent way that is respectful to the community and achieves it jobs, hoops, and public housing goals but nothing, nothing we have seen from FCR or ESDC has given us any faith in this happening. It is time for a fresh review from top to bottom.

Please don't ever say the words "honest" and "transparent" in the same breath as Sheldon Silver - you lose all credibility

At least the delay is a big F U to Pataki

Anon 12:57,

You are very welcome for the comments, Mr. Goldstein.

Thanks go out to Norman Oder (author of Atlantic Yards Report) who finally got some information from the developers that proves the numbers don't add up for this project.

FANTASTIC NEWS!! The 12:57pm post is definitely not Dan -- though I'll bet he's as pleased as thousands of other Brooklynites about this new DEVELOPMENT. This BOONDOGGLE has to be rethought.

1. Affordable housing that is truly affordable for ordinary, working people in the borough.

2. A plan to address the traffic and public transporation "bomb" AY will create unless scaled back.

3. A hard look at the costs to the taxpayer and the benefits to the developer.

4. A truly public process that puts an end to the corrupt backroom dealing that has characterized every step of this plan up to this point.

I've heard from a staffer at Silver's office that it's not true.

Halle-effing-lujah. Finally, something I actually WANTED for Christmas!

I won! I mean we all won. Yay! The war is not over yet. We need to stop every development in the city.

So we are still at war with these greedy developers. NIMBYs we are going into more battles!

I'd have much more confidence in this item from NY1 if there was at least one more source to confirm it.

How outed is Ratner? He can't get the state to help him with his scam to use public money for his own personal gain. Thank goodness there are honest politicians like Silver that care about the state taxpayers' best interest.

Silver honest? He's as corrupt as they come! But I understand. As long as he opposes the Atlantic Yards, then he must be one of the good guys. Just like Charles Barron, who supports Robert Mugabe.

Spitzer comes from a Real Estate back ground .. you really think it's gonna be different in 2007?

Posted by: Anonymous at December 20, 2006 8:28 AM

I think that ultimately what matters to these pols is press and $$ and the state coffers will be bled dry by the Atlantic Yards. So the press is going to have a field day with any politician they can blame for the mess that will happen as a result of the state writing a private developer a blank check. This aint Ohio folks. This is liberal NY. And I just think that a big ugly expensive eyesore is going to cause problems when voters are asking why their other pet projects can't happen like the 2nd ave subway, or school improvements, etc. So when the press takes the pix of the poor people being forcibly evicted from their homes and the $$'s become apparent these politicians are going to look really bad.
