Hot Stuff at the Smoke Joint

31smokejoint.jpg
According to the Brooklynian boards, Fort Greene's brand new barbecue spot, the Smoke Joint (South Elliot and Lafayette), was already packed on Saturday night. Those who've stopped by say they're serving hearty portions of tasty, not-too-sweet pulled pork, tender, dry-rubbed "Baby (Got) Back Ribs," creamy and delicious mac and cheese, spicy fries, and a solid selection of microbrews. Can anybody else report on the place? By the time the Brooklynian crew got there, the Joint had run out of catfish — any comments on their seafood selections?

The "hack & stack" pork sandwich is great and the Brooklyn Wings (my order was 7 drumsticks, btw) are tasy, too. Definitely will be back!

Jay and I and some friends went Sunday night. The portions were generous and tasty, and we had a really great experience with the staff. They were ultra friendly and personable, brought us a whole tray of tasting sauces and brought me a huge glass of sweet tea after a soda spilling incident that killed my digicam. Thankfully, some of the photos were saved. We'll do a review on CHB in the next few days.

I did notice Seafood and salad at the Smoke Joint but, really, what's the point? You go into a BBQ place for MEAT. Pork. Beef. Good.

If I wanted Seafood I'd go to a seafood place. (I know you can BBQ seafood but, again, WHY????) Oh, and I never want salad. Ever.

This place looks really fun. I'd like to go, but don't want to go alone. Anyone want to meet a new neighbor and try a blind meetup?

We went on Saturday night too. Delicious, friendly, just great. Seemed to be some kinks in the process - they ran out of many of the items, the food seemed to take a little while to get out of the kitchen, and all they had was canned beer (though didn't I read they'd have Six Point on tap?) - but the vibe was great, the staff and owners were great, none of those 'problems' took away from the experience. Smoke Joint will quickly become a neighborhood fave, for sure.

Why put something on the menu that is N/A?

their renovation or whatever you call what they did to the exterior is hideous. it looks like a total dump. it also looks dark inside and not inviting since you can't even see past the glass door. i understand the desire to make a bbq place look like a shack but a sloppy run down shack that's closed to the street is a little much.

What a welcome addition to the neighborhood! This place is awesome. My wife and I ate there Friday night. The food was outstanding and the vibes good. We were surprised they were already hitting their stride on opening night. We also admired their functional and fabulous design.

We finally get something as wonderful as smoke joint and already people want to tear it apart. I personally love the design. The food is fresh and tasty.I will be a regular... Nay sayers my question to you: Have you ever had the guts to start your own business? If you did you would'nt be so dismissive. Player haters come a dime a dozen.

If I started my own business and it happened to be a BBQ joint I'd sure as heck make it look nice on the outside. I would also make sure lots of natural light penetrated the interior. Sunlight is good and healthy, it stops mold from growing, cuts energy costs with light and heat, keeps the air fresh and tasty, and in general provides a healthy glow to any space it enters. I don't hate players, where did you ever get that idea?

We were there on Sunday and it was so dark and dismal looking from the street we thought it was closed.

First off, let me say I am thankful to have a not-expensive restaurant a block away from my apartment, and I am not mad at their design - it beats Cambodian Cuisine by a mile. I stopped by after work on Friday, and was really not that impressed by what I ordered, but I will be back to try other selections and I realize that it was crazy for them at the time I came. The good - tasty bbq sauce, good quality ingredients. The bad - I found the pulled pork sandwich and the mac and cheese dry and not as flavorful as I expected. The seasoned fries were just OK.
Regardless of my lone experience, with the selection, price and location, even if this is as good as it gets I think it will be a huge success, and when they do delivery they will really make a killing. They do need a lighted sign for the outside.
Anybody know when 67 Burger will be opening?

Then maybe you ought to open a bqq joint.One that has"lots of natural light penetrating the interior;
that stops mold from growing;cuts energy costs and keeps the air fresh and tasty..."lol

Cool - that's my picture! Smoke Joint rocks!

We went and loved it. No complaints, except I wasn't crazy about the cole slaw. But that's just a personal pref and they DO offer two kinds of slaw- I only tried one.

As far as the sunlight- the whole fron of the joint is practically a solarium- I can't imagine what a ground-floor storefront could possibly do to allow more natural light in. Reflector mirrors? Bottled sunlight? That's some plain retarded criticism, that is.

I liked the design of the place; it was a thoughtful combination of modern/industrial and woody with exposed conduit and pipes painted bright orange, a great sliding and counterweighted bathroom door, and plenty of natural wood and butcherblock.

Will be back as soon as this stomach flu I have loosens it's grip on me. Ugh.

67 Burger opened today. I went for lunch. Ordered a chicken sandwich with bbq sauce and bacon. It was actually really good, but it cost me something like $9.75. Just for the sandwich. No fries.

On one hand, the food did seem fresh and of good quality, and I don't mind paying more for food that isn't crap. But, I don't know how they will stay in business selling $10 sandwiches.

I've been to Smoke Joint 3 times and every time something was left out of my order. Also, I find the bbq sauce too sweet--tastes like ketchup--and the meat dry. Can't figure out what all the fuss is about here. I was excited to have this in the neighborhood, but it's very disappointing.
