Architecture 101: 186 Quincy Street

house house
We'd never noticed this grand old house at 186 Quincy Street before but when we walked past on Saturday we couldn't stop snapping photos. It feels like it should be a bed-and-breakfast. Does anyone know anything about its past? The only interesting thing we could turn up was a vacate order by the City back in 1993. GMAP P*Shark

This was on the market last year for 1.1. Apparently it's a legal 11 family and very chopped up inside. Don't know if it sold or not. It also has a garage. It's a pretty sweet property on a weird block.

A legal 11 family for $1.1M? You mean, me and ten of my pals could each have a $100K apartment?

Looks like it is 11 units - but last sold in 2002 for $350K.

The home was owned in the late 1870s by Joseph C. Hoagland, President and part owner of the Royal Baking Powder Company.
