A 'Rare Opportunity' To Buy a Piece of Crap
Any suckers out there? If so, this one's for you! Actually the ad's too good not to just print in full:
Here's a rare opportunity to invest in this well developed, 3 family, brick property before the "bidding" starts. Located in trendy Park Slope North (Prospect Heights), it features 4 BR units (12 total!!), 2 baths per unit, full basement, and new everything (appliances, wood floors, fresh walls, light fixtures, bath fixtures, windows, plumbing, electrical wiring, and 1 year guaranty). This property is still being worked, but is only months away from being complete. View this property, be assertive, and make it yours.
Park Slope North? Hah. That's a good one.

One year gauruntee...hilarious. Guess they don't build them like they used too.

I've been to prison in nicer looking places.

i like how "bidding" is in quotes. unintentional comedy.

I have been walking by this building for the past year as it has been under construction. No joking but the Empire State Building was built in less time. The developer could be in some trouble with delays. I can't wait to tell my wife we live in Park Slope North now.

There is something wrong with the window installation. Up close you can see that they don't fit the openings.

Whomever built that pile should have to live it in.

nothing like some good ol' Soviet era Eastern Bloc architectural aesthetics. YUM!
Posted by: Anonymous at October 23, 2006 1:15 PM
I walked by it recently - they have just added the little roof over what will be the entrance I guess, a lovely touch. It is not a great location, between the two other buildings, but it does make the least of it.

Brownstoner, you are so elitist. sure it's ugly and poorly constructed, but not everybody can afford million dollar hom ... oh, never mind.

Big D--so less affluent people should only be able to buy ugly pieces of crap? Low price should not have to mean low quality.
Posted by: Anonymous at October 23, 2006 2:35 PM
i think the point is the use of the word suckers to dismiss anyone who decides to invest in this property..it is elitist

Ad has this priced at $1,400,000

sarcasm is often lost on the web.

Isn't this that weird pie-shaped lot on Underhill Ave (nr Prospect Pl)? A great location so it's really too bad the aesthetics are so hideous. Gotta say, I disagree with the elitist comments being thrown at brownstoner. As architects the world over have demonstrated for the past 20 years or more, inexpensive doesn't have to mean cheap and nasty.

Just look at the picture. Who needs sarcasm?

Is it supposed to be rentals or condos? It certainly looks like an instant slum.
Posted by: Anonymous at October 23, 2006 4:55 PM
Why do so many new-construction buildings put in those Fedder type recessed window air units? Why not install central air, especially for units with that kind of price tag? SO weird. These tasteless, stingy C-level developers think the only thing that determines the sales prices in real estate is square footage and nothing else. They ignore all the other details.

Another suggestion for the renaming of this site: www.everynewbuildingsucks.com

This is going to be faced in brick.

Hey 5:22pm, who suggested everyone here hates all new buildings, I love new buildings that are good design. I love all good design, old or new. And unlike some people here, I am fully capable of calling some of those overly ornate Victorian Brownstones with too much dark wood in them, "ugly". And yet I STILL call this building ugly! Era has nothing to do with it.

is that gaza?
Posted by: Anonymous at October 23, 2006 7:08 PM
"Brick property"? Do they mean next door to a brick property? Or are cinder blocks now bricks?
Posted by: loser at October 23, 2006 7:24 PM
"4 BR units (12 total!!), 2 baths per unit,"
So that's a grand total of 48 bedrooms and 24 baths? There must be several below-ground levels under that bunker that aren't visible from street level...
Ok, but seriously, how did they even fit 4 bedrooms and 2 baths on each floor of that?

Go ahead, be ASS-ERTIVE and make it yours !

Now its elitist to call a piece of shit building, a piece of shit building? Awesome!

Don't forget to add the provision in the contract about keeping the chainlink fence before the closing, new buyers!
Posted by: Anonymous at October 24, 2006 9:41 AM
I wonder, honestly. How much of it is stupidity and how much is it greed? Can we get the builder to understand the role of architecture in society? And how in a very real way, he/she makes a contribution that resonates in the lives of people for many years to come? Would he/she care? I'd have more respect for 'em if I believed they did understand but chose to say, "fuck it, I just wanna make money"...
Posted by: pfa at October 24, 2006 1:54 PM
As a matter of fact pfa, I had a chance to speak to the developer when he had a for sale sign immediately after they poured the foundation (1-1/2 years ago) and from the conversation, i'd say you're on the money. If I can remember, his response was something like "Ok I'll sell you the property at the going rate, plus the cost of the foundation, but I can out very little into this property and make double of what you'd pay me". Nail, head, hit
