Where To Rent Power Tools in Brooklyn?

tools
Someone asked us last week to recommend a place to rent a floor sander and we didn't have a good answer. We remember there was a place in Bed Stuy, on Nostrand maybe, where our contractor rented a couple of things during our reno, but other than that, we couldn't be much help. We're interested to hear where readers have had good--and bad--experiences renting equipment.

I rented a bunch of stuff for a patio project (power tampers, wet-saws, etc...) from Millers Tools on Coney Island Avenue near Church. They definitely have floor tools as well.

we've rented tooks from Miller's Tools, on Coney Island Ave. the prices are good, and they are friendly and respectful (always an issue for me as a woman).

I hate the brooklyn home depot in every regard, but I have rented a floor sander from them without incident.

oops! "tools"

glad to see it's recommended by someone else too.

You're thinking of Total Tool Rental--certainly the best place for a floor sander. Home Depot rents them, too, but I'd advise against using them.

Of the two things you've got pictured:
#1 (floor sander) can easily rip holes in your floor
#2 (chop box) can easilly rip off your hand.

These are not 'casual' tool rentals...

I hate the HD in BK as well but i rented a drum sander, floor buffer, edger and finished 1500 sq ft of hardwood floor for $600 and a sore back. and returned the unused lambswool applicators and extra sanding belts without issue.

There are multiple Home Depots in Brooklyn. Please specify which one you hate or do a better job of generalizing your hatred by saying, "I hate ALL Home Depots, particularly those in Brooklyn".

Miller Tools at Coney Island Avenue and Albemarle, at the edge of Prospect Park South. We've got driveways and tool rentals, too! I'm surprised real estate ads for our neighborhood don't mention Miller's (like upper west side ads mentioning, just steps to Zabar's)!

Brownstone Brooklyn does not go to the Ft. Hamilton Home Depot, at least not any more. They must hate the new one on Nostrand.

The TOOL RENTAL shop that B'stoner was referring to is on Nostrand near Myrtle Ave. It's THE place in the area.

Another vote foe Miller's on Coney Island Avenue. Nice people, fair prices, pretty well-maintained tools, help and instructions.

I hate all Home Depots everywhere, but I have a white-hot burn-in-hell hatred for their online department.

Millers Tools= the best

I rented a jackhammer from a shop on 3rd avenue and 15th street (sorry can't remember the name). No instructions but it wasn't too hard to figure out. I just turned it on and hung on. Price seemed fair and they were nice guys.

GT Rentals, in outer Greenpoint at Apollo and Nassau-- I really can't say enough positive things about their selection, service (with instruction!), and prices. We've rented tons of stuff from them over the course of our renovation, from a pneumatic rock drill and huge compressor to a self-levelling rotary laser level. Often we've not been exactly sure what we need to accomplish a given task, and they have set us up with the perfect tool, accessories, advice, and phone support.

I have to put in a plug for Total Tool Rental on Nostrand (Just south of Myrtle on the west side of the street). We've rented everything from them from scaffolding to floor sanders/buffers etc. but they have much more and are knowledgeable. If you are starting a renovation project I recommend you swing by to see what they have...it would have saved us multiple nightmares at the Nostrand Home Depot and the redhook/parkslpsouth lowes. Good luck!

anonymous at September 21, 2006 8:02 AM: I think if you have to ask these kind of questions, you would be better off hiring the work done by a professional.

Any power tool, in the wrong hands, can do damage or injure the user, you would be better off hiring the work done by a professional.
