Excerpt from EDC/boro pres letter:
We are very pleased to inform you that the New York City Economic Development Corporation, in cooperation with the Brooklyn Borough President, is seeking expressions of interest for the rehabilitation and reuse of the former Loew’s Kings Theater (the “Kings”) in the heart of Brooklyn—Flatbush.
Built in 1929, the Kings is one of Brooklyn and New York City’s great historic treasures and the City’s only remaining grand movie theater never subdivided. Inside its richly decorated interior, Kings hosted concerts, performances, and films that captured the hearts of generations of New Yorkers, including many who went on to become legends in their own right. For those who visited it in its heyday, the Kings represents the architectural and entertainment glory that lends New York City – and Brooklyn in particular – such power in the American imagination.

We saw the (heartbreakingly crumbling) interior many years ago on a BCUE walking tour...incredible it was just left to rot. And amazing it hasn't been taken over and "renovated" as a church hall, discount store, or God knows what. Me, I'd turn it into exactly what it was meant to be...a movie theatre to put the elegance back into moviegoing, with white-gloved ushers and usherettes hired from local community and trained to corps perfection (ask alumna Barbra Streisand for details)...fresh popcorn with real butter...and worldwide fame as the ultimate opening venue for urban entertainment openers, a 'hood version of the Astor Plaza. This was the original bling--authenticity would marry its original purpose with its current community. You couldn't make money doing this, I'm told, but I can dream!

How Low can Low Income Go! I will tell you. The monstrosity cond project at the corner of Fulton Street and Classon Avenue may go homeless shelter or batterwed woman shelter.
The Developer Can't Sell.
No offense, but what happened to the
new modern condo's. What happend to the change coming to Clinton Hill.
This is a step backward. I'll tell you why. This building started with wrong decisions, continued with wrong decisions, and finished with wrong decisions, so it's destiny will be fulfilled.
