Salvager: Man With the Mirrors

mirror mirror
We stopped by Eddie's Salvage in Clinton Hill on Saturday to check out the new stock and catch up on neighborhood news. What jumped out at us were two mirrors. The pier mirror on the left came out of a house on Cambridge Place; the one on the right from somewhere in Bed Stuy (we can't remember exactly). We believe the prices are $2,500 and $1,500 though our memory could be failing us there as well. GMAP

Eddie sells a lot of stuff, plenty of 15 dollar things, but mixed in with the chairs and coffee tables and unabashed junk are gems and jewels: beautiful marble mantle pieces, grand doors, pier mirrors, chandeliers, and lots of wonderful stuff, but you have to check regularly and look behind the doors and dust stuff off - and if you need something for a restoration, tell Eddie (like spindles for your staircase, a wood mantle, pieces for sliding doors, etc.) and he'll look out for you. He is a wonderful guy, honest, kind and funny. Tues-Sat 12-6.

very true, my roommate asked him to look for a piano and he found one! unfortunately by that time my roommate had secured one elsewhere but hopefully somebody else bought it.

Eddie is awesome. He really seems to love what he does and is not out to rip people off. Got a great door from him.

No clue. Are those good prices for those kind of mirrors?

Brownstoner wasn't sure of the prices, but one thing you can be sure of is that Eddie sells stuff very reasonable. Also, it is fun there. He runs around talking to people and attracts a pretty big crowd on Saturday. One sunny day I was waiting to talk to him about a fireplace part and I wound up hanging out sitting in a beatup old rattan chair, enjoying myself. I bought the chair.

I live just a few doors down from Eddie. He's super nice and always gives a deal to me as a neighbor. I got these great 15 panel glass pane, solid wood doors for less than half the price of the same thing at a Home Depot, where they were boring, unstained and new. I got antique ones with skeleton key locks and beautiful handles.
