The Wedge Building: No Fatties Allowed

Talk about a railroad apartment! This building on the corner of Sherman and Reeve Place may win the award for Brooklyn's skinniest building. Can anyone think of one that's more narrow?

Anyone know what this building was originally developed for? I can't imagine it would be a residence...though it would kind of fun to live in rehabbed....for awhile.

I'm not sure if this is the same location, but I read an article awhile back about a local land owner who built a very skinny building like this one out of spite of the neighboring land owner, who had prior told him he would neither buy the fragment of property nor allow him to build anything on it without a legal fight.

Collin- I remember that article too, i think that was on the UES or UWS, if i can find it I will post it. But yeah, he built that apt to piss off the other land owner....

It was the "Spite House" at 43rd and Lexington. More info: http://www.nyc-architecture.com/GON/GON005.htm

I think that this is a trick of perspective. While the building is that thin at the back, it widens in the front. I'm assuming this is like the building on the corner of Fulton and Clinton which used to house Bodegas; viewed from the right angle, it would look like this.

We owned this house from 1970 to 2006 and it is not all narrow. The narrow part is only the 3 hallways. The rooms are regular sized. You just didn't get to see the front of the house which is as wide as any house in the neighborhood, if not wider. It is also not a railroad flat type of home. The first floor was originally a neighborhood grocery store. We lived on the first and second floor and rented out the top floor. I'm kind of excited to see it on the internet. Now I can say I owned the wedge house, narrowest house in Brooklyn.
