In Search of the Crispest Pickles and Unburntest Coffee

17coffee.jpg
We were pretty excited when MUG directed us a blog that reviews Brooklyn Diners — like the Grecian Corner Restaurant, Vegas Diner, and Carroll Gardens Salonike, where "the ladies' room is very clean and roomy, and doesn't smell like anything. There was a dude coming out of it yesterday, but hey, it's Brooklyn, you never know what's going on." The only let-down is that this blog hasn't been updated since June — but maybe we can help inspire the blogger, Sars, to write up some more reviews. Any thoughts on Brooklyn's best (or worst) diners?

The Donut House on Court...a classic no frills diner. There's a group of old ladies who meet regularly in the back there- excellent for eavesdropping...as for the food, REALLY cheap and SUPER greasy. No donuts, but who needs them when you got Dunkin Donuts nearby (joke)

Unfortunately, my sole experience at Donut House last summer involved having to swat endless flies off all limbs and away from the table.

Quite the infestation, nuisance and creep-fest...flies all over the place, throughout.

Coffee was indeed cheap, and I certainly got what I paid for. I had completely lowered my expectations going in, but even still, the ersatz nature of the cup placed before me somehown managed to vastly undershoot that. Nas-tyy.

Little wonder as to why that was the last time we tried that place, given these and various other not-so-appetizing reasons.

Thank goodness for other places like D'Amico, Naidre's, The Fall (and now also Coffee Den on Union) etc. that certainly have much more of a handle on how to do it right.

Major tip of the hat to Gorilla Coffee on 5th Ave in the North Slope, too.

Wonder how the new Tea Lounge coming to Court Street (by the Cobble Hill Cinema) will add to things this fall (or winter, not sure of timing).

Hah, whoops. Got lost on coffee tangent.

For diners, I love Clark Street Diner for its good food and reasonable prices. Weekend brunches are excellent, as are mid-week dinners. Very reasonably priced.

"Carroll Gardens Classic Diner" (formerly Salonike) on Smith Street too, for similar reasons.

There. Back on topic. ;)
