Gowanus Holiday Inn Opens Without Incident

Except for a few computer problems and some grumbling by neighbors, the opening of the new 115-room Holiday Inn in Gowanus a week ago appears to have gone off without a hitch. Turns out there are a lot of people who are desperate for their relatives not to sleep on the pull-out couches of their cramped Park Slope walk-ups. The hotel is already soaking up latent demand from wedding parties: 40 or so have already blocked out rooms for the fall. And who can blame 'em. At $149 a night, the price is right. The only negative so far appears to be a strain on nearby parking spaces. That, and apparently the coffee tastes like shit.

Good old NYTimes writers. Have real trouble with geography. Even repeats mistake. 1st says hotel is in area east of 4th avenue. Then later on states Park Slope is to the west and Carroll Gardens to the east.

I live on the block and can not confirm the quality of the coffee, however parking definitely got harder this last week. Its not even the car traffic that is annoying, there was an enourmouse bus illegally parked for over an hour last night taking up 3 or 4 very prime parking spots, as i cruised and cursed in a bid to move my car. I yelled at the guy once who only shrugged. If I see this happening repeatedly, I am going to begin complaining regularly to the management.
