CH Tour: Use Your Illusion

One of my favorite groups of houses is an amazing piece of architectural optical illusion. The houses on this block of New York Avenue look crooked, yet they are all structurally sound, and have always been this way.

Actually I think they reall are crooked on the outside. You can see in the top photo how the windows fit in the sills, and the doors. When you stand in front you can actually see where the buildings are off true. But, unless I'm wrong, I think the lower group of houses are in Bed-Stuy and are identical in all respects but one. They are straight. I can only imagine what happened but I'm thinking that a couple of bottles of whiskey had something to do with it! :-)
